break in advice

Any advice during the break in period? I have a new car, about 800 miles. Specifically, does it matter at all about using the automatic transmission or manually "shifting" it? Thanks for any help

Re: break in advice

I would leave it in the auto because manual shifting can over rev the engine, which is to be avoided during break in.

Why would someone recommend something like this? The guy might actually do it.
Newlifeca, read the manual, it says not to rev up higher than 4000 RPM and not give it a full throttle untill 1500 miles (I think it was 1500 miles). I believe that engineers who designed the car know a little better than anyone else.

Here's one point of view: Run It Hard!

Here's what I did: Break-In Schedule which makes sense to me, and follows the Infiniti guidelines and most of what I've read over the years.

Lots of debate about this. It's always safer to follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

I believe that too but I doubt they got anywhere close to writing the manual for our cars

I only said that because that's truly how I believe a car should be broken in ... alright not driving it crazy-silly but driving the car as you mean to continue driving it. If you're going to drive it hard, drive it hard from the get-go... Personally I've never been one for break-in periods and I've never had an issue yet...

I know this is a controversial issue so I'll exit here, but there's always two sides to the coin... some will say go easy, some will say drive as you mean to go on, either way, just love your car.
