passenger airbag off indicator question
passenger airbag off indicator question
Just wondering, if there is no one sitting on the pax front seat, is the airbag off indicator suppose to be on constantly or go off a few seconds after starting the car? I tried to search the FAQ and wasn't quite clear. The reason I ask was today, when it was 11F outside and stuck at a traffic light, the indicator lit up and was on till I started moving again.
This has always been the case ever since I purchased the car new but today's incident made me curious. Thanks.

It comes on a few seconds after you start driving.
Mine does the same. I'll drive off, come to a light and 5 mins later it will come on.
Sometimes it goes back off though. And sometimes it doesn't ever come on with nobody on the seat.
However, with someone sitting there, it stays off.

I have the same problem, light just stays on... on... and on! but I got it fixed at the dealer, and they said it may have been the sensor. Never came after that; don't want to take a chance if I were in a wreck!
Really? I thought it was Light off, airbag on if no one was there. I know my GF's Toyota is light on, airbag off if no one is there.
When my daughter sits in the seat, the light comes on and the airbag is off. Also, mostly the light is off and the airbag is engaged. Sometimes, my gym bag can create enough weight to turn off the airbag and engage the light. In asking around, someone had convinced me that maybe you do want it shooting out if there is no one there to act as a right-side airbag.
Every so often, I will notice the light off with my daughter in the seat (at a light). I tell her to sit up and back down, the light engages, disabling the airbag.
Most of us have 2006s who have posted. I am not sure if the 2005 was different.

I went over to infinitihelp.com. I looked through the different years. It looks as though 2005 is the first year they mention having a remote sensor.
Remember, at first everyone just thought that airbags were the greatest. Why wouldn't everyone want them. it was then after a few accidents and injuries that we discovered that the wee folk could actually be hurt more by the airbags than the accident.

I don't have kids, so never really had a child in any of my vehicles ever. So i don't know how mine acts with under 40 pounds on the seat
And the girls i date aren't that skinny
