Rust colored spots on Ivory Pearl
Rust colored spots on Ivory Pearl
About a month after I purchased my G35 last July, I noticed several red/rust colored spots on the exterior of one of the rear doors. The dealer took care of it with a chemical compound like a swirl/tar remover.
I washed my car today and noticed similar spots on several different areas on the car mainly on the sides. Recalling what the dealer did, I removed many of the spots with the Turtle Wax swirl & scratch remover.
Have others with the ivory pearl seen or heard of this before?
I never had this problem with my previous white Honda Accord. I'm suspicious that there may be a problem with the paint.
Opinions anyone?

Re: Rust colored spots on Ivory Pearl
I've had many white cars, and it has often been a 'problem'. It shows up most on white and is caused by external contaminants - could be tar or other organics, but can also be pollution by small metallic (iron) particles. The latter is common in heavily industrialised areas. I can't say why you haven't seen it before - different environment, different roads, different wax, different splash pattern on the body - who knows. But don't worry about the paint if you don't see any paint damage after you remove the spots.

Could be from railroads, this sometimes happens to cars shipped by rail. Maybe there are some railroads in the area?
Try claying the car to see if this gets rid of them.

Re: Rust colored spots on Ivory Pearl
Sounds like crap the car picked up either during transportation or through regular driving. Perform a high level detail on the car and then examine it again after a couple of weeks, if the same spots reappear, there's some crap/splash on the road surface that's adhering to the surface of the paint.
A good wax should stop anything from bonding to the paint permanently, providing it's not as toxic as bird-poop, then you only have a day or two to remove it before "scarring" can occur.
I doubt it's aq flaw in the IP paint.

On my last white car, the dealer referred to the specks and grit as "industrial fallout". Comes from all the crap in the air.
