24.08 MPG in my X

WOOHOO!!!

The best I've been able to get around town in my G35x is just over 20 MPG.

Just made a 1600 mile road trip, all interstate, cruise set on 79 and a half, two adults and the trunk loaded with camping and SCUBA gear. All but 1 tank was regular grade gas at a quality station. I did fill up with Shell Premium once at the base of a mountain pass with a 6% incline.

I'm impressed 'cause I beat the sticker which stated 24 MPG. Actually, the tank of premium before the 6% mountain pass had about 40 miles of uphill then 80-100 miles of downhill and I got 24.87 MPG on that tank. Evened out on the return trip though.

How are you calculating your MPG? The old-fashioned manual way, or using the NAV readout?

1540 miles on 63.95 gallons. I do the math after every tank. No NAV. I use the paper fold out NAV, I trust it. Of course I also clean my windshield at every fill-up too, even if it's raining, but that's just me.

I'm the same way about cleaning my windshield. Less bugs and dirt = better aerodynamics not to mention the weight savings...

Wow incredible, the other day when I did a little trip through the mountains I averaged 12mpg according to the nav. Of course I was in 2nd and 3rd gear the whole time using a lot of WOT!

On a more serious note, 24mpg+ is really good, I have only gotten near that on flat highway roads.

Check your oil at every fill up* these engines tend to use a bit more than Nissan 3 liter of old, due to looser bearing oil film space and lighter ring tension, solid bucket lifters, etc........to boost HP.
At least they added an oil cooler for the small 5 quart volume.
*Learn to evaluate it hot........at least every 1,000 miles.

Is it just the X that has the external oil cooler. I have asked and never gotten a response. My understanding was/is that the slush box sedans didn't have an oil cooler. Or was it a trans cooler. Damn I'm mixed up right now...
