Exhaust
Here are some options to change your exhaust tone.

1. Coupe Middy
2. HR Y
3. HKS

All interchangeable with stock and you can put them on in any combination.

Depends on how much you want to experiment.

If you want REALLY Modest - Try 1. If you want little louder, add 3. If you want louder still, add Y. But the noise increases are very very small.

I for one, have the Fujitsubo. It is rated 1 db over stock over most of the driving range and 8 db over stock over 4800 RPM. I'd say my experience says Fuijitsubo's numbers are right on. You do lose some low end torque and no real HP gain that I can notice.

Suspension
350Z is a very nice way to go. Lowers approx 1" all around. Very livable. The only problem will be after about a year, you'll want to go lower :7:

2005 6MT - 350Z revised springs and Fuijitsubo with HR Y-pipe

sweettalker 08-13-2009 02:06 AM

WOW, the g35 sedan owners have toned down when it came to flaming. usuall with questions like this people would say do a search or it has been posted numerous times. But yea everyone seems to have answered all your questions. I personally think putting on coupe midpipe HR y pipe and all those 350z springs and such are waste of money. Some people on this forum like to modify the vehicles TOO STOCKish. It is not even a sleeper, they put on coupe pipes, other y pipes, 350z springs. With that much money spent, I rather have gotten some decent springs, racing y pipe and custom make an exhaust but that's just me. I'm just ranting cuz my project didn't go well today for 350z seats in sedan (see above thread) sorry y'all. LOL

Well, he did say he's been researching and his questions support that. He's also got very specific questions and not some generalized "What's the best exhaust?", so no flaming is warranted.

Why is it "TOO STOCKish"? The Y-pipe and Coupe middy are excellent sound upgrades to an 03-04 Sedan and will cost less than $200. And 350z springs are as good as any "decent" aftermarket springs. For "decent springs, racing y pipe and custom make an exhaust" you'll spend 5-10 times as much as on those "Stockish" upgrades, and get minimal gains over the stock mods as well. That to me is a real waste of money.

BTW, read the sticky on springs. Most aftermarket springs designed for the G/350Z are too soft. The revised G springs offer a very nice upgrade to any G35 that you'd be hard pressed to match in an aftermarket setup short of coilovers.

Buckeye FTW, again............

4mermarine 08-13-2009 12:42 PM

Taking account of all the advice (ignoring sweettalker) and another day of searching I'm going to go with the coupe middy for the slight increase in sound and weight savings... Also I want to go with the coupe springs because the drop is not as much as the 350Z springs... Does that sound about right?

Final advice needed... What shocks/struts should I get with the coupe springs? I want to buy new OEM equivelants.

Right on the money.

Our Sedans are solid cars. If you want to get the best out of them you will have to drop heavy money. That's why people go the "stockish" way because there are just as good as the cheaper aftermarket parts, if not better.

To the OP, i would get the HKS muffler, HR Y-pipe and coupe midpipe if you want. Shouldn't be more than 500-600 if you get them all used. nice sounddd

So I need some opinions on what I should do next.

Currently I am dropped on zprings and am about to run 235/40/18 since that tire size is extremely cheap. I am debating getting 25mm spacers all the way or spending the money on a grounding kit and assorted engine mods. Any input?

iiiiiekoiiiii 08-13-2009 06:35 PM

06x i need to get rid of these springs and get those new coilovers for the X.
I only run staggered on the rims< i know they say no no for the X, but come explain that to me i'll teach u a thing or two =]
I changed more then 5-6 sets so far, from aftermarkets to Oem 19s of all kinds lol...
I have ztube & kn&n and stock intake box modded.
5/16spacer.
labree High flowcats
full borla TD exhaust customed to fit the X...
on 17s and no spare, I get to give 2nd gens a good beating lol... STOP lookin down at the 1st GENS SON! lol

Just put these rims on 2 weeks ago, and in 2 weeks I'll put them up for sale. Im probbly going to get these Vossen 082s with Black lip.

Id like to get the OEM front lip, Cause I ran over my lip =X dont ask
black Roof wing would compliment the black roof. Kinda sick of the rear blacked out tails. SO prbbly GTR style.

Oh yeah and a single snail or a Vortech would make my day.

The 235/40 is pretty small, about 3.5% smaller than stock. I'd think about going to at least a 245/40 because you might run into VDC problems with the smaller tire. It may come on more often because it thinks the wheels are over-spinning (more revolutions needed for the same distance). Prices are pretty good on that size too. As for wheel spacers, you have to decide if appearance is more important than performance. Or look for some Coupe 18's since they have a better offset (+30).

And while I think a grounding kit is helpful on a 5AT (I have a 10 wire kit), it can wait until after you've done your intake and plenum spacer. You'll get alot more benefit out of those and can add grounding later.

is there a point to an 03 350z y-pipe on an 04 sedan?

A little better flow and sound change.

Hey guys ... im a super duper noobie and jus purchased a 06 g35 sedan ... im interested in much show but more into the go go part ... so guess i need suggestions ... as the first basics ... i'll b starting with the intakes headers n exhausts ... for intake im thinking of going for stillen as it seems the best buy for now and i live in UAE or dubai ... so shipping will cost me a bit so im not too sure if i wanna buy jus the drop in filter then the z tube etc ... but if its a better performer then sure !!! next wud be the exhaust again ... which would be the best exhaust system and or should i jus get the backbox (im not in it for the noise) and i read somewhere in the forums tht the headers arent much of a help ... so pls advise i want to take it from here and build it into a good track and dd !!! thanx guys !!!

I really like my Z front/coupe rear combo - to me it sits perfectly, though if anything I'd go a touch lower in the front, so coupe springs up front might leave more gap than you would like. And as long as they're in good shape, go with the shocks that come with the springs. It don't get no OEM-er than that!

As far as the coupe middy, yeah, go for it while you ponder the HKS. Should make at least some diff in your sound.

How about I start it off, because I was planning on doing this anyway.
First off, I'll say I'm in love with my new, for me at least, Black Obsidian 05 G35x.

Still I want to start modding as soon as the spring rolls around.
The first few things I plan on doing, is for sure getting some black rims, and some blackbatmobile overlays for the headlight and tail light.
As for the rims, my budget isn't that great, and as a 16 year old having to pay for it all myself, I do not think it'll get to great haha. I'm at the moment look at some Stern wheels and tire package I found on ebay, its around 1300 so if anyone has any suggestions for something near there thats glossy black. I'd love it.

But after those two things, I'm pretty much just jumping all over.
After my wheels I'm gonna have to save up a bit, but I'm not sure whats worth it and whats not. Especially not being too automotivly inclined.
I really would love a new exhaust because I really want a good deep, loud sound, or to drop the car.
Both those things are really expensive though it seems.
So if any of you guys can help something for that, I'd appreciated it also.
I would also want to do something performance stuff if I could, but theres so much, I heard people talking bout spacers, or pop chargers, and ztubes, and I really don't understand any of it. haha
So pretty much, i'd prolly like to go best bang for the buck.

Thanks, I know I basiclly don't know anything. haha :confused2:
P.S. I read alot on the site, and have looked through the stickies, but I always get confused with having the X what I can and can not actually do.

Thanks again,
Alex

I'm 24, and when I was 16 I drove a 98 Ford Taurus SE. How the hell do you have g35???

Johnnyone 09-23-2009 12:34 PM

^ im' wit you. I had a 90 Honda Crx when I 16. Check out the how many sedan owners under 35 thread, bunch of young cats wit G's.

AceG35X 09-23-2009 02:33 PM

Eh i had a fully loaded Tahoe at 16.. at 18 i got my G =)
For all the new owners that are trying to get some performance out of their G but are limited due to fiances.. go with the Moterdyne Spacer.. if your looking for some sound upgrades.. intakes are a clear choice.. but otherwise check out the hks sport muffler.. some say it drones too much.. but it grew on me.. as for cosmetic.. get some clear corners and blue bats..

Cat35 09-27-2009 01:06 AM

'03 Obsidian Black Sedan with sport suspension and every option. I started my mods with DBA 5000 rotors and Hawk ceramic pads. Gotta make sure you can stop right? Added Tokico shocks for comfort. Then added the Motordyne 5/16 copper thermo plenum spacer since I'm in WI. Great mod. Added noticeable power. GT Spec tower brace for cornering. Looks perfect under the hood with the Infiniti symbol just above the bar. Bolt on JWT popcharger for more response. Came with filter, brace, and heat sheild that channels air in from the under hood air duct. Increased exhaust sound which was a pleasant surprise. Tinted the windows to 30% for all but the front. Wired an open circuit to by pass the yaw sensor in the VDC control that resets itself every time you start up. Lets the back end bust loose in an automatic. You can find them under the center console. Orange wire. Installed an awesome 10 wire grounding kit from Sentientbydesign. Response is insane and super easy to install. All I have left is rims, tires, high flow cats to muffler, paint grill, and deemblem. Love every mod. Wouldn't change a thing. Didn't cost a fortune either.

04.5 6MT Sedan. Current mods are Stillen CAI, Stillen Gen 2 exhaust dropped on unrevised Z/G spring combo with OEM sport shocks. I have picked up some coupe 19's and am having trouble deciding tire size. They are 4 rears 19x8.5. Thinking of 255/35 or 245/40 all around. Any suggestions over the two??

I have the same set up for the rims and it's running 245/40 all around with no rubbing and they are a lot cheaper.

Alright, so I have a '04 G35x 5AT.

Already installed z-tube with k/n drop in and installing a PAC ipod adapter. Plenum spacer to come as well. What should I do next? Only spending $400 max so 1 mod is allowed. Looking for deeper sound for daily driving (not WOT) but also better air flow/exhaust production.

1. HFCs/test pipes
2. HKS Rear section
3. Motordyne XYZ

AceG35X 10-29-2009 04:11 PM

if ur going for sound get the hks hands down

Mods to get next

I need advice on what mod to get next on my 05 g sedan. I already have a nismo r tuned intake, and a stock exhaust besides the muffler and my cat is taken off. I am getting money at least 1000 dollars for christmas and I was wondering what to get next. Any suggestions?

I/H/E. finish it up =D

full catback exhaust, high flow cats.. get headers maybe? pulleys? tune?

thats all bolt ons performance wise.

OR 1000 into cosmetics?

Cat35 11-17-2009 03:14 PM

I'm a little confused. You say you still have exhaust work to do? If so finish that. No sense going on until you've finished the project you're on. Otherwise the two I would recommend would be a 5/16-1/2" plenum spacer, and a tower brace. I put in a Motordyne 5/16 spacer so that the tower brace would fit when I closed the hood. That's about $500. Then maybe a grounding kit, some tinted windows, painted calipers, or new rotors and ceramic pads to cut down on dust? If there is anything left over it will go towards gas. You're gonna want to drive it around a lot after the work is done.

AceG35X 11-17-2009 07:36 PM

If he got 1000 dollars play money i wouldnt do paint and small jobs.. nor would i do cosmetics during the winter, unless its really warm by you. Finish your exhaust, spacer, and get a drop, sway and strut bars..leave cosmetics for the spring.. esp DIY

Yes. Adopt me.

But srsly, drop, sways, HKS axle-back. Something nice for the interior, maybe?

AceG35X 11-17-2009 07:50 PM

ROFL @ SwivelHips.. seriously.. i want $1000 for X-mas...

BigMikeG35 11-17-2009 09:59 PM

ya i live in north jersey so its going to be snowing out here so thank god i got the awd :) but i would like to finish my exhaust so it sounds brolic as hell and prob drop my car. If i do my exhaust would it be better to do 3 inch piping all around with headers and high flow cats or do the same thing with an xyz tube and get a second muffler....with the coupe midpipe of course lol

BigMikeG35 11-17-2009 10:01 PM

and for the headers if i was going to spend around 500 on them which type should i get for best performance and sound? Like DC Sports headers or something like that? and for the record im not rich i just have a lot of relatives and thats how much i usually get for christmas/Hanuka combined lol :)

AceG35X 11-17-2009 10:04 PM

haha my man your all over the place... check out Stillen... but you realize your gonna lose a ****load of low end torque once you put those puppies on. Unless your planning to get a tune.. and "slamming" your car for the winter isnt a great idea.. and the idea of a second muffler and cm is gonna add a good amount of weight to your car.. besides that fact that you dont have hangers or brackets, so you'll need to go to an exhaust shop.. its gonna be pricey...

chinaxinsanity 11-17-2009 10:42 PM

headers are really expensive.. usually people who install headers for you charge the price of the header's itself -_-

drop wise, like ace says, wait until spring. thats what im doing at least. i got some diesel *** dunlop m3 winter tires on for now :)

BigMikeG35 11-18-2009 12:15 PM

ha ya i was going to wait for spring to drop my car i just wanted to see what people think. im not going to get rims either till the spring just in case cuz of the snow and **** too...ill prob finish my exhaust upgrading to 3" piping probably either with some type of headers or get some high flow cats

Swivel 11-18-2009 12:20 PM

^^ Once again, headers and 3" piping are not your best mods unless you really need that flow -- check ttrank's exhaust build thread for his TT sedan.

But if you're dead-set on headers, here are some for a good price:

https://g35driver.com/forums/exhaust...s-headers.html

BigMikeG35 11-18-2009 12:31 PM

Thanks for that link I might get those as my headers but any other suggestions about what i should do performance wise besides the exhuast? I was thinking of a little engine dress up too or something along those lines

Swivel 11-18-2009 12:41 PM

Performance exhausst: Stillen Gen2 exhaust if you don't mind some noise

Dressup: CF engine cover, strut bar, Nismo/Arc rad cap, oil cap, etc., polish your plenum.

AceG35X 11-18-2009 06:25 PM

Dress ups are really DIY, and dont cost that much.. if you got the money then do performace first.. the performance i did was in this order:
Intake
Plenum Spacer
HKS muffler
Berk HFC - HR Y pipe - Coupe middy
Waiting on my Cobb accessport and a pro-tune.

i dont think im planning on doing headers... like i said.. you might loose low end power with headers.. so consider where exactly you want your power... don't just dump money into parts because everyone else is doing it.. you might end up with something you werent expecting..

SedanManBen 11-24-2009 02:47 PM

So I was thinking of doing a few relatively cheap mods to keep me happy with my 03 5AT for now... (I plan on buying an 05-06 6MT when I save up some more green)

I already have the coupe midpipe, K&N drop-in filter... soo pretty much stock.

I was thinking of doing these next:
Plenum Spacer
HKS axle-back muffler

I also have highly considered doing a K40 Calibre hidden radar system (I'm moving out to Virginia... and radar is illegal out there, and I have a hardwired V1 now)

I also have been itching to replace all my speakers and get a sub.. I have an aftermarket single DIN with iPod/wiring for subs and another 4ch amp currently.

Here's my ride now:

^ I have two oldschool JL 12w6 subs for sale, and a monitor 1 amp, pm if interested

Cat35 11-24-2009 04:02 PM

I would recommend plenum, jwt or other intake, and grounding kit. Then tower brace and brakes for control. You'll love driving after those are on. I guarantee it!

been a member for a while, but with school and work, its hard to search and keep up sometimes... Is it possible to keep stock struts/shocks on a 2005 non-sport Sedan and lower with unrevised Z springs? Or would some stiffer aftermarket springs be better? I know on my previous car (tiburon) my drop was only 1.1in and my stock struts died within a month or so...... thanks
