Not a friendly G35 owner!
On my way to work today I am cruising at about 85mph on the freeway. I come up behind another G35 driver who is going about 78 to 80mph. We are both in the fast lane and there is a car in front of that G35 doing the same speed as that G35. Here is the problem... As I am coming up on the 2 cars, I put on my blinker and move over to the middle lane and shift into 4th gear to blow past these 2 drivers, then all of a sudden the other G35 decides to come over as well, but the front end of my car was maybe a couple of inches in front of the rear bumber of the other G35. I had to put on my brakes kinda fast and the other G35 jerks back over into their lane. As I pass HER, she flips me off. What the crap was that all about? For the remainder time on the freeway she just continued to try and pass me! She had an automatic (because the car was an 03', which I was able to tell because of the trunk lid) so that wasn't going to happen in stock form. I was really shocked at her gestures for what appeared to be refined lady.
Sorry, just venting.

You should move to Cali. I have only found 3 G owners who waive or gave anything to other G owners other than attitude. The manual trans doesn't give you much of an edge but you do get better gears spacing though.

I get mixed responses from G owners here in NJ. For the most part positive. I have to say that most of the positive waves are from the younger drivers. Some people are oblivious talking on their cell phones but I've never gotten flipped or chased. That's wrong.

Re: Not a friendly G35 owner!
The only thing that I have on my car is a third transmission (new and improved i guess) and a 350z intake. Don't under estimate my car. I blew the doors off of a brand new RX-8 yesterday. I know of quite a few auto's that are stinking fast, but that is because they have done a few things to their car. This car today had to be bone stock. Who knows. :-z

8s are slow man. The situation has to be absolutely perfect for them to be able to keep up in a straight line. If they are not prepared, the G will put bus lengths on it.

Yeah, I get the same B.S. from people in Chicago. Most of the time it's some jag in a coupe (sorry, just an observation) who acts like he's got a different car. Otherwise, the sedan drivers seem like they're in a trance or don't notice. I tried honking for awhile, but didn't bother anymore.

The coup owners really feel like we wish we were them. Almost as though we couldn't afford the extra 2k for the coup.

That sucks and is so stupid.
I was driving on the highway the other day and saw a nice new 6MT coupe. Also saw it was a younger guy and I pulled along side and gave him a thumbs up but he just looked at me like he had no idea what was going on, so I just continued on my way. I've only gotten one or maybe two at most return thumbs up.

Hello:
Boy, there are a lot of folks who think their AT cars will keep up with an MT. The fact is: they won't, if the MT driver knows what to do with the extra pedal and lever.
From a standing launch, an MT car has a tremendous advantage since it can launch at the exact optimum RPM, with whatever clutch slippage you desire (if any). ATs are at the mercy of the torque converter and whatever RPMs a brakestand will get you.
Even while moving, an AT car will delay longer to downshift than an MT, and you are also looking at additional power loss due to the complexity and drag of the AT. That's why the mileage is lower, and if you check any of the big three car mags (MT, R&T, C&D) you'll see a consistent half-second to second difference 0-60 mph between otherwise identical cars. The exact difference depends more on the car weight and its power (really, torque) output.
One caveat applies: someone who is running one of the racing ATs with shift kits, etc. or some paddle manumatic is going to get about the same performance or better depending on how gonzo they are on the shift speed. The MT or manumatic still has the edge in holding the proper gear for cornering, as well.
FWIW!
