Engine is slightly rattling, more in P than in gears.

I noticed that the engine (05 sedan) is slightly rattling when idling. it has 39k miles on it. i sat on my friend's 05 coupe and his doent rattle like mine. I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with AC coz i turned off both AC and mine still rattles and his doesnt. do you think dealer will even consider this as a problem ?

it is normal ?

could be a from a bad spark plug to a worn engine mount, it is impossible to know what the problem is,

u need more info for us as well as for yourself. maybe u never noticed it before? dose ur car run same like always? etc

Below is an exhaustive list that you can try:

1) Ensure that you are using premium and "good" gas, try switching to another gas station if there is one that you always go to

2) Check spark plugs, check for oil problem at the plug for cylinders closest to firewall. Oil appearing at there will imply you might have valve cover gasket problem (a known issue among the VQ35DE)

3) Check your cats and O2 sensors. Easier way to check functionality of your cars is to go for an emission test

4) Clean your MAF sensor and Throttle body. MAF sensor can be coated with oil if you use aftermarket air filter and you do the oiling yourself; Throttle body can have too much carbon build-up or it is just malfunctioning (another known issue)

yeah all those things will help, but just a tip on number 4: be super careful and not use to much throttle body cleaner because it can eat away at the coating of the sensor itself inside the maf, then u'll have to buy a new/used one

good luck!

Could be the timing chain tensioner. These can fail over time and the sound you describe is typical of a failing tensioner.

should i just tell the dealer that my engine is rattling and have them to check what you guys have mentioned ? do you think they will even consider " slight rattle " as a problem ?

Since you are still within warranty, you can do whatever you want at the dealer... but bottomline is, get it checked out asap

You're under warranty. Give it a shot. If they don't find anything, at least you have record of getting it looked at and it might give you some leverage if the tensioner gets louder just as the warranty expires. BTW, using the word "fail" is a bit strong. The tensioners get worn, but they don't really fail. They just get noiser and noiser.
