Noise/Vibration beyond 65mph - Help Please
I just got the 30K mile service done. After the service, once i cross 65 mph, i hear a mild but very annoying humming sound (as if it is a worn out wheel bearing) accompanied by a mild vibration as if the wheels are oval and not perfectly circular. Wheel rotation is part of 30k service too, would improper rotation be the culprit? Please advice what the problem would be. I plan to drop the car back to the dealer for trouble shooting, but this time i want to be informed.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

First thing to check would be an out of balance wheel. Is the vibration coming from on particular corner? Front or back? You also mention a humming sound - is that at a particular RPM or just over 65 mph?
A quick check is to check the tires to see if you something sticking on them.

Re: Noice/Vibration beyond 65mph - Help Please
Rajanb,
Thank you for the response. I dont see anything sticking to the tires, i also checked the tire pressure. The noise seems to be from the front end, and it is only beyond 65 mph, not at a particular RPM. I will look for any out of balance wheel. I have scheduled a trouble shooting appointment with the dealer, i will let you know what we find out. Also, the steering feel is not the same as it was before the service (the spring action of coming back to original/straight wheel position is lacking a little bit). Do you suspect it has anything to with tire rotation or improper camber/castor angles?
I can't believe how much a little imperfection can upset me after driving what seemed perfect for 30k miles!.

Re: Noice/Vibration beyond 65mph - Help Please
I just replaced the tires on one of my vehicles due to one of them being defective. When the tire in question was on the rear of the vehicle a vibration was barely noticeable, but when I put it on the front it drove me nuts. I think it's possible that it is one of the front tires and you are only now noticing it since it is on the front instead of the rear.
As a side note: When the tire store balanced the tire everything appeared fine, despite the vibration. It was only after I took it somewhere else and used the Hunter machine that does the "road force balance" that we determined the tire was bad and could not be balanced properly.
