Still considering a G35 and have a few more questions

I guess it depends on how much you drive and if you are wanting to get an extended warranty. Me, personally, I was going to get the extended warranty but I really haven't had a need. When I first bought my '06 with 33k on it, I had a problem with the radiator leaking coolant within the first week. That was replaced and since then I have not had major issues. I have had a coolant leak, but that was user error. My AC belt vanished, but I put on a new one. Other than that it's been standard maintenance, replacing the brake pads and changing oil. I drive my car hard too sometimes. I plan to keep it for a while as well and hopefully it gets me to 200k or more, but by that time I'm looking at getting a fully built engine.

i think the VQ35 will be more than adequate for my needs. I would definitely get a better flowing exhaust but doubt I would need more than 300hp. I doubt I would get an extended warranty because there are no local Inifiniti dealers and I am comfortable with doing most of the wrenching.

A simple, cheap, and nice sounding exhaust can be achieved by replacing the midpipe with that from the coupe and removing the muffler and having a straight pipe after the midpipe. I get so many compliments on it. I do want to replace the y pipe since it is quite restrictive itself, but the midpipe and muffler delete cost me $120 total including install and purchase of midpipe.

Seats are comfy IMO..
no worries there..

I got a 05 G35x w 40K miles for $16k but it all depends on your area..

I'll have to look into a midpipe but this sounds like a good mod. Are there videos in the exhaust sticky? How much louder than stock is it and is there any drone?

MUCH louder. I don't notice any drone. Here's a few videos I have done.



The first is taking it all the way to redline and second mild driving, I think 3k rpm

Wish I got that kinda deal. I got mine for 24k with 33k miles, but that was a year ago. Fully loaded almost, just missing the sports package which didn't matter to me...coilovers, and oem 19's > than sports package.

I don't think I'll ever buy a new car again. We've had 4 new vehicles during the duration of our marriage and it seems like we got raped on each of them when we got ride of them. We just bought a $36k Freestyle for $15k and are planning on getting another (G35 maybe ) for about the same.

ok so as far as the seats go, ill add my little piece.

im 6foot5 and solid. the seats anoyed the hell out of me for about 2-3 hours of driving. once i got home, i spent about 5-10 mins adjusting the seat in every direction and found a perfect spot where the seat is very comfy. havnt had a problem since.

this is in a 2002 skyline 300gt. but the seats are the same......just the other way around.....obviously. RHD FTW

Saabs are maintenance nightmares. It won't take more than 5 minutes on any consumer review website to hear horror story after horror story about huge repair bills. I'd steer as clear as possible from the Saab. The couple thousand more you may spend now on a G35 will be more than made up for in the long run.

I don't think the newer 9-5's are that bad but it is harder to find someone to work on them. I am pretty confindent that I could do all the maintenance and other work on the G35 but there are some things that require special tools on the Saab If I end up with one that consumes oil that may add a little to the maintenance cost too but I probably won't be putting a whole lot of miles on it.

The sound clips posted above are great. The Saab has the ability to throw the driver into the seat during highway acceleretion but will never sound that good. I think the G35 is a good bit faster than the Saab in all other areas too

To add to this are there any must have options? The things at the top of my list are of course a 6-speed but I would also like Xenons and heated seats. I've heard that there have been some problems with the Bose CD changer, is that one to avoid? From what I've read I am also playing Russian Ru let with the oil consumption thing but should I worry about anything else?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think all models after 2003 (maybe 2003.5) have Xenon headlights. Also, I know the heated seats come with the premium package, but they might even be standard. The buttons are on the center console so just look for them when you get in. From what I've read, the problems with the Bose CD changer were primarily in the '03-'04 models. The interiors were changed up a bit for '05-'06 and they must have solved the problem. Just to let you know though, don't expect the Bose to sound great. It's a very average sounding system even though it is 'premium'. Also, make sure you compare the interiors on the '03-'04's to the '05-06's before making a decision. A lot of people probably wouldn't even notice the changes on the exterior except for the painted skirts around the bottom. I was initially going to buy an '04, but changed my mind after seeing the '05 interior.

im 6'5 and i came from a lexus es300. When i first sat in the g35 the seats were soo stiff compare to the lexus and der was not much leg room or hip room (overall it was a alot smaller). After a while i got used to it because it had that sporty feeling to it which i liked and felt "tucked in". But the seats are still not quite comfortable, my *** aches a bit after long drives (45 mins), probably becuz im so tall.

If you decide to to go with an 03-04, der are much more apearance mods available. the 05-06 i think only has a front lip available but interior is better. Perfomance mods, i think they are exactly the same, correct me if wrong. "X"s have a few disadvantages concerning modding but i think you mentioned rwd so your good.
