Tachometer question

I drive my parents audi right now, and vs the audi the 06 G35 I just tested did something different I want to know if this is normal

So If I hold my foot on the gas just maintaining 40mph if I take my foot off the gas all the way the RPM goes down to 1 then back up to 2k rpm or which ever the rpm is for 40mph, I saw this as weird as my Audi does not do this.

PS: no the speed didn't just drop it did dip down and go back up I was still doing 36ish.

I was in Automatic mode, not Manual select.

Thanks

It has to do with the torque converter in the transmission. It will either lock up or not depending on engine load and other variables.

I've driven certain diesel trucks where if you take the foot off the gas at 60MPH the engine RPM will drop to idle.

Just depends on the trans/vehicle, however i've never noticed my car drop off to 1K. Usually I notice a 500RPM drop or so when i take my foot off the gas in Auto mode.

It might have also downshifted quick just because it was in a weird spot. (speed wise)

But it is probably what Mustang said.

If you're considering a G, stop considering and go buy it.

Well does it feel weird? Make a noise?

Maybe go test drive a different one and see if you can get it to do it.

I test drove 4 in total and just noticed it on the 4th one lol. It did not feel weird or make any noise, it was just weird.
