New 05 G35x Sedan Owner

Just picked up my car last night from the local Infiniti dealership, went back and forth for several days on the purchase price. The car has high miles, 97K, which is the only reason I was able to afford her. I got her for 12.5K which seems like a good deal based on everything I have read here and seen online. The car is very clean, premium package, new tires, Bose...

Heres my question, before buying I asked them to change the tires because it was super loud about 45mph, after a bunch of bickering they swapped tires with another car on the lot and I eneded up with almost new bridgestone tauranza el400's. As I am leaving the lot last night I notice the same noise as before. I almost turned around but traffic was a mess so I took it home and called the service dept and am taking back this morning for them to listen to it.

The noise can best be described as a humming noise at most speeds and it does it in drive or in neutral, would this most likely be tires? I check the psi last night and they had 50 in each tire, I dropped them down to 35 but havent driven it yet to see if it is differnt... Just wondering if the awd introduces some front end noise?

I believe that AWD will only kick in when the car senses slippage and under 11 MPH or so. otherwise, it's RWD the rest of the time.

AWD is engaged under 11MPH, after 11MPH it begins to fade to 100% RWD, but when you come to a dead stop and accelerate, some power is always transfered to the front wheels.

No there is no additional sound with AWD. My car is dead silent at 80MPH cruise. What it sounds to me is that you have a bearing in one of your hubs that is on it's way out and making the noise. Hopefully the dealer can track it down and replace it

The AWD by itself doesn't cause any more noise, but those Bridgestone Turanza's are some of the worst tires I've ever had on a car. Absolute junk, especially if you get even the slightest amount of snow where you live. If you do, AWD won't matter at all, you'll be sliding everywhere. And 50 PSI is WAY too high.

And yes, they were noisy too. I can't believe how much they sell for retail, but I know I'll never, ever buy them and I'll insist they be replaced on any future car I buy.

Anyhoo, rant over. Welcome to the club, you got a great car no matter how many miles.

Dropped car off this morning at the dealer and a service tech rode with me around the block and commented "sounds like tires, shouldnt make that noise". They gave me an 09 G37x loaner and should call me later today... I hope it is something that they can easily fix and not try to charge me....

Woot!!! The dealer just called and they are replacing both front wheel bearings at no cost... Hopefully all the noise will now be gone... What a relief...

same thing happened when I bought my 05 G35x. It had 50k on it and made the same sound and ended up being a wheel bearing. They said it happens cuz if it sits for a long amount of time before and then gets driven, they dry up!

My car goes in for the same noise next tuesday! Hopefully they don't give me a hassle for it being lowered and on different rims. My dealership sucks when it comes to customer service but they are the only one around so I deal with it....plus warranty expires in 3 months.

To the OP, glad they are taking care of your vehicle for you!

I picked my G up last night and the noise was completely gone, now I can actually hear the engine revving and hear the radio. As I was heading home the dealership called me to ask how it was driving, wow, they care They also asked me how far away I was, I thought that was strange. The service tech said that after I left he talked to the service manager and the GM and they decided that they were going to do the 90K service for free. I am taking the car back today to have this done, guess they want to make sure I am happy and take my car to them for future services.. I am very happy at this point....

Picked up vehicle tonight, everything checked out okay in the 90K service. I was looking thru the paperwork and including the front hubs and bearings the total charge would of been $1992. Glad that I was not stuck with that bill.... Front bearings and hubs were almost $1300 of that total...
