You think opinions from others are based on the graphite interior colour? I LOVE my willow interior. So much more bright and elegant. When auto reviews and such in magazines, they are always graphite interiors.

It's still a G thang!!

I don't think colour is part of the equation... it's a very subjective thing.
Just like some that love wood trimed interiors and others (me) would rather have anything but wood.

I think it's more substantive & related directly to ergonomic design

Re: The G's Interior Sucks - Who Cares?

I'm like Cale - I'm too busy looking out the windshield at the action going on around me to be concerned about the interior. I know the interior is important, and it has to be adequate, but if the interior is what "blew me away" at this price point, then the performance would certainly not be there. It's simple math.

At the $30,000 to $37,500 price point of our cars, some compromises must be made - and in the interest of the highest possible performance for the $ allocated, corners were cut in the interior trim.

I guess, based upon the posts made here by others, that the power window switches are only "silkscreened", and that you would never catch Lexus doing this in their IS300 - well, I'll bet that everybody with an IS300 would gladly trade power window switches with me if it meant that they "catch" me on the open road, or in the twisties, or anywhere else.

I think the "G" interior is satisfactory, and the car is superior in most every other category (but I'm prejudiced). My $0.02

Re: The G's Interior Sucks - Who Cares?

Well, what IF G35 has the interior of TL's quality and Design at the same price? will u still prefer the current one in G35 or the "TL" one?

It's understandable for why G35 lacks of interior design or "quality", as The G35 was made and designed a few years ago, which Nissan was suffering from financial problem, and to reduce cost. (from what i have read)

If G35 is not going to improve it's interior design, it will be very hard to compete with its enemy, especially the 06 Lexus IS, BMW 3, and 06 C-class.

In terms of performance and price, the G35 is really leading at it's segment.
In terms of quality, gadgets, and price, the TL is no doubt the learder too.

So, i hope the next G35 will have the interior of Mconcept, if possible

P.S. dont u want something like this in a G35?

Re: The G's Interior Sucks - Who Cares?

I have to agree with Vsix. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of the G35. It's a great performance sedan and a bargain of a car. There's no doubt that the money spent on the car went into the performance aspect of the car rather than amenities. Believe me, I'm no stranger to that concept since I had an S2000 which has no frills for it's $32K price -- all of the money went into what matters in a sports car.

I'd love to see the G35 maintain its performance but gain an interior with the details and amenities of the TL. I was almost ready to get a TL to replace my recently destroyed G35 but after driving the TL, I felt that the driving experience was more important than the amenities. That said, I've got a Diamond Graphite 6MT sedan on the way with everything I had before minus the aero package.

Re: The G's Interior Sucks - Who Cares?

Regarding graphite interior with willow head liner, just check out some of the German cars, same thing. It was a design decision.

Personally, I like the interior. I would prefer real aluminum center console and ***** for the temp rather than buttons, real left hand driving layout, maybe easier access to the VDC button, but overall, it's very functional and looks good to me. One of my friends has a TL. I'll admit the materials seemed better, but I didn't like the design or layout of the interior.

Re: The G's Interior Sucks - Who Cares?

I am not an expert on the G as I don't own one. I did just test drive four cars back to back. The G, 330i, TL, TSX.

Here's what I think about interiors. The TL and TSX were the best. They had better seats and higher quality interior overall in the way they look and feel. The BMW was nice as well. The funny thing is that I don't recall much from the G interior other than the seat (which I did not like). The reason is that it was such a superior driving car that I was not focusing on the interior. The other cars aren't really close to the G as drivers cars. Unfortunately for me the seat is such a problem that I wouldn't buy the car. Having said that I would not settle for any of the others, as the G blows them away in every other category.

I think I will wait for the 05 in the hopes that some change is made.

Re: The G's Interior Sucks - Who Cares?

I too agree the interior of the TL is a bit nicer (with a more high-tech look and feel probably due to the blue/white dash lights, the DVD-A audio system, and the voice activated Navi system) than the G35 but it seemed more closed-in feel for some reason. There's definitely less space in the rear seats of the TL. I'm not a big fan of the BMW 3 Series plain, monotone 'blah' interior, and the seats have always been a bit hard; they drive well though.

Personally, I like the interior of my G35 (I have the Willow interior which has a nice 2-tone look); yes, it's more "down to busines" as someone else said, but I don't mind the fingertip controls and how everything is laid out. The steering wheel's audio controls are slightly awkward, and I wish I didn't have to sequence through the inputs to get what I want. However, I can reach everything without stretching too much and I like the orange dash lights (although I do wish they were a bit brighter -- more electro-luminescent like a Lexus). The Infiniti Navi system is a very good Navi system (I especially love the BirdsEye view) although I think the voice activated commands would be a nice feature...we have the same system in our '03 FX35 and I'm used to it. The G35's premium Bose system is good -- I think they upgraded it to 222w (from 200w) for the '04 or '04.5 and it sounds decent with a nice bass kick (although most will agree that Bose's lack of a midrange control is just stupid and would sound better with midrange). I do have to agree the driver's seat is not the most comfortable, but it's tolearable, and I don't have a problem with where the seat controls are; I never activate them by accident like some people do.

All in all, I think the G35's interior is just fine; the G35's ride, handling, and power make up for anything the interior lacks. Although Infiniti could get a few hints from Lexus and Acura for improving the G35's interior, I think it currently works well enough (especially with the Premium and Navi system) for the G35 being a 4-door 350Z! ;-)

Re: The G's Interior Sucks - Who Cares?

Here's what I don't get. Before buying my 6mt sedan this past spring, I considered, studied, and test drove multiple times, the following: Saab 9.3, 330i, TSX, TL, A4, A6.

In all my research, the trade pubs gripe about the G35 interior as being cheap and the Audi A4 is consistently lauded for its cabin design. No offense to Audi owners (I actually prefer the A4 skin to the G35), but I can't stand the A4's interior layout. IMO, the buttons are oddly placed and all felt cheap (i.e., window and mirror controls, a/c climate controls, sound system buttons) and access to the driver information system is not intuitive.

Ok, so why am I picking a fight with A4 owners? I'm not. Really. I just don't like the herd mentality of journalists and many consumers.

Design is a subjective matter and the old adage that goes something like, "one's trash is another's treasure" is particularly true when it comes to personal tastes.

I like the G35's interior just fine, thanks. And as many before me have said, the drive is where the fun is. A car may be a means to an end (destination), but who says you can't have fun along the way.

Peace!

Re: The G's Interior Sucks - Who Cares?

i agree. the g35s interior is horendous. i expected more from Infiniti. even the aluminum dash trim looks cheap. the nissans and 350zs interiors are so much nicer.what was nissan thinking making their lower line of cars look better.

Re: The G's Interior Sucks - Who Cares?

To me, that is just "different", not necessarily "nicer", I sat in a TL at the NM Auto Show a couple of months ago, and I found it okay, but I like my G better. I think some people are impossible to please!

GG35 , horrendus? That's BS!

Re: The G's Interior Sucks - Who Cares?

i think the interior is fine. it isn't plush and it isn't prissy....just sporty enough to be efficient. as far as what infiniti was thinking.... i think they were thinking that it's better to put the money into performance enhancements rather than fluff. in my case they were right because that's why i bought the car or would buy any car. the interior is only an issue if it detracts from the car and ours certainly doesn't IMHO.

Re: The G's Interior Sucks - Who Cares?

No, Vsiz - I DON't want "something like this" in a G35 - if anything, I'd want a mechanical LSD (rather than the viscuous one I now have), wider tires, 18'' rims if they are as light or lighter, and a true dual exhaust system. The interior is fine now, for my purposes, and if they are gonna spend the $, spend it for performance, and further distance the "G" from "pretenders" like the TL.

Everyone could take a lesson from BMW, who is working VERY hard to regain their Sport Sedan crown they lost to the G35 - and they ain't spending their engineering $ on fluffy interiors, my friends!

My $0.02 - thanks for asking.
