Why get a flash tune?

I don't under stand these tunes that come and you just flash the computer of the car. I can't see them doing anything with the af's? Or do they? All i have seen from these flash tunes is they raise the rev? These cars stock on a dyno fall off before redline? So why would i want another 1000rpms without cams?
It would be slower in a sprint then if it shifted into the next gear to put it in it's power band. Then they have the +2 degrees of timing the only thing i see that will make more power from these tunes? But i can do that with a timing light for free? Also they allow you to raise ideal? Why would someone want to do that. Maybe if you had lumpy cams but then again If I had cams I would tune the car on a dyno with a y-band? So can someone explain this to me. Thanks for the help guys.

To get the benefits of all the bolt on mods, you must tune the car to adapt to the changes in air, fiel, and timing. Once I was done installing all the bolt-ons, I gained 21whp just from the tune. Uprev Osiris FTW!
i live in NJ, does any1 know where i can take my car in the jersey or Ny area to get a tune after i'm done with all my boltons? i dont know much about tunes and reflash at all, i have an 03

Look in here to see if you have one in your area. I believe the Osiris does not work on the 03's. Could be wrong on that though.

how are they being safe with the tune if its just a general tune for every car? Did they tune it to you car or any car with your bolt on's? Also if you advanced the timing 2degrees with your bolt on's you don't think you would see that 21 hp increase?
Over the past month I have installed a Stillen intake and Z-Tube, Stillen Gen2 exhaust and a MD 5/16" Iso Thermal spacer, I know I need a tune but they sure are pricey.
Got a $600 quote for a dyno tune at Specialty Z today... definitely in the market to get this done soon.

Part of the reason for the tune is that under WOT the car will actually close the throttle down to about 80% at about 6000 rpms. This is part of the reason for the drop in HP towards redline.
Although the ECU is adaptive, the reflash will set the ECU to achieve new values which will allow for optimal performance. Headers don't really even give you much of a gain unless you get a tune.

toolboothwilliey thanks you for the response. That helped me lots. I don't understand why the factory tune would close the throttle plate? Maybe easier on the trans between shifts? and I didn't think about the tune keeping you on the best factory tune of the three in the stock ecu. Good Info!!!!

I am a firm beleiver in dyno tuning. Off the shelf chips and ECU flashes are just not for me. I like to have the car strapped to a dyno under load with a wideband O2 monitoring A/F while the tune is being created.
It's expensive as hell, but i've seen the results offhand and they impress me plus the tuner can tweak parameters for individual cars since no two tunes are ever exactly alike.

My car was fine-tuned on a 4 hour dyno session. Every engine parameter was monitored and dialed-in.

I understand that but thats getting your car dyno tuned. I was asking about the flash tunes you order or just send out your ecu to a company and they upload a tune into it.
