Aero vs. Non Aero

Does anybody have any experience driving the sedan with and without the aero package? I'm not speaking of the complete body kit, just the factory aero package that includes the rear spoiler and underbody diffusers? The reason I'm asking is because my '03.5 6MT had the aero package and the '04 6MT I'm getting won't.

Does anybody think a difference can be felt in the 0.01 Cd or the zero rear lift at highway speeds or fuel economy?

Re: Aero vs. Non Aero

I really doubt the aerodynamic effect is perceptible to the human body. I like the aero kit, but unfortunately I was not willing to order the car with it. I'm pretty happy with the results of painting my stock lowers in terms of looks.

Re: Aero vs. Non Aero

I don't think you would actually feel it, as it is intended for "higher" speeds to eliminate lift. I have it on my sedan, and have been in the triple digits...the car feels like I'm doing 80. I have never had a chance to drive a non aero at those speeds.

Cheers, Ted

Re: Aero vs. Non Aero

I have the non-aero 2003 Sedan, no wing or underbody diffusers.
It bothered me so much that I bought the two rear underbody
diffusers. Do you think I have ever noticed a difference, keeping
my speed below 100? ...........Nope. But at least I can say I have
them and they probably do more for aerodynamics than the trunk
spoiler does. I have had the car up to 110 and it feels planted
to the road.

Re: Aero vs. Non Aero

Well I have a non-aero 2004.5 and have taken it to 148 and it felt pretty solid. But I also have the Z suspension so that throws things off a bit. I've also taken my Z to that same speed and 148 felt like 90. But these were one-time shots as the Jun Z crash kept replaying in my head.

Re: Aero vs. Non Aero

I have a 2003.5 sedan without the aero package, I have sustained 140+ speeds with no issues whatsoever. The car always feels like its going 70 with the exception of more wind noise. I dont miss the aero package although I do think it looks better. By the way I average 25 mpg also. Hope that helps.

Re: Aero vs. Non Aero

I have owned both. First G was non-aero, current one is aero. I haven't noticed any difference, but then again I have only had my current G above 100 only briefly. Its nice to know I have it though.

Re: Aero vs. Non Aero

I felt the benefits that the parts offer was enough to justify paying for the parts. I had them added on before I had the car delivered to me. I also thought that the car looked better with the rear spoiler.

Re: Aero vs. Non Aero

I agree with SoCal Ted. I have the aero kit. Hit 130 on a barren stretch of I35 betwee Waco and FW. It was really windy. The car felt super tight, like 80. Thankfully I had shut down and was only going 95 when TX State Trooper pulled yours truly over. My Valentine didn't make a sound...ends up it was busted...and so was I. Tough way to find out your radar detector is on the blink.

many extended trips when stock at 100 plus, feels planted. I went east to west on I40 in 3 hours across NM with a stop for gas.

very windy too.

Re: Aero vs. Non Aero

Thanks for all the feedback. I was wondering if the effects of the aero package could actually be felt. I've only been above 100 mph about three times and wondered if the aero package provided any benefits at 70-80 mph.

As I said earlier, my Garnet Fire 6MT sedan had the aero package. I didn't want to regret not having all of the options available and figured that the extra downforce and slightly better drag coefficient would make the car feel more stable on the road. I was bummed when I couldn't find a replacement 6MT sedan with the same options. There were 6MT sedans with the aero package but not some of the other options. I finally decided that the other options (premium package and navigation) were more important. At times, I think the car looks better (sleeker and cleaner) without the trunk spoiler and other times I think it looks sportier with it. If I had the choice, I would chose the aero package again but, unfortuneately, I didn't have that choice.

I guess I mainly wanted to get an idea of what to expect. Oh well, I guess I can look at it this way: I'm losing the aero package but gaining the LSD and TPS.

cato:
How much did it cost to purchase the underbody diffusers? How difficult was it to install them. I guess I should have thought about removing them from my wrecked Garnet Fire sedan before my insurance company took the car.

By the way, am I correct in saying that, since the winter package is no longer available, that heated seats and mirrors are now standard.

Re: Aero vs. Non Aero

I think all these aero kits are more for the looks than actually making the car more fluent and stable.

The aero kit cannot be seen without getting under the car.

You are thinking of the aero body kit, which is, yes for looks... except for the spoiler which does work in conjunction with the under body fairings.

Cheers, ted

Re: Aero vs. Non Aero

The diffusers cost around $20 apiece. I don't think they cost more than
$50 alltogeather. They were pretty easy to install, I simply jacked
my sedan up at the rear jack point. Crawled under and installed
first the jacked up side, then squeezed over and did the other one.

cato:

Do you, or anybody else, have part numbers for the diffusers? Would Grubb or Trophy Nissan (where I bought my 350Z airduct) have them?
