A great day

I haven't totally introduced myself to every. I'm Ryan from Ventura and I love my car. I have an '03 black G35 sedan with about 70k miles on it. I've had the car for about two years and the only thing I have done to her was tint the windows.

Well my day went like this. I got up early mainly because I couldn't sleep. I was wicked excited about getting my new 18" 7 spoke oem rims powder coated. I stopped by my tire guy to have him remove the tires from the rims and to order two new tires. I then dropped my rims off to get them powder coated black. After this I went to Kragen and picked up some primer and paint.

Now it was time to get to work. I removed my oem grill and sanded that bitch down and shot on a layer of primer then started to work on my USA spec ipod adapter install. Oh my that was fun. Took me just over an hour to make sure I did every thing correctly. After all was said and done I broke off one of the little tabs that holds the shift plate in place (trying to see if super glue works lol) and I have one screw left over. What a newb, but it still turned out pretty bad ***. I still have one more coat of black to put on the grill before I'm done.

Thanks for reading, I'll have pics up later this week after I get the wheels put on my sexy thang.

Two years and you just started modding? Eventually my a$$ Just wait because now that you've started you won't be able to stop. Put in hood dampers today and came straight to the website to look at some more goodies I want.

Congrats on doing it yourself. It's such a great feeling!!

HAHA, I feel ya man. Plus I just got my oem's powdercoated. Stripped to bare metal and done in semi-gloss black. Looks great!

I hear ya! The ex being the ex is the reason I bought my G. Now I can do it right and not have to worry about hearing her complain.

I can hear it now: "Why would you need a spacer, doesn't it have enough space already?"

Good riddance I say! Next girlfriend will definitely have to understand my relationship with my car.

Oh you guys make with laugh about the EXs.

Looking forward to the pics, espically of the rims. Also, was it hard to take off the shifter cover? Any tips you could offer? I will have to do it soon on my 03 sedan to get the parking brake adjusted. I'm always paranoid when you have to pull on something that's attached by clips...

Took me two years to get the bug, but then in the span of a couple of months...well, check my sig. Like bluemax, my wife has come around a bit to the modding, and I actually haven't spent a lot. She says "if this is the worst of your mid-life crisis, then I guess I'm okay with that..." haha.

Removing the shift plate from the console was easy. There is an ABS piece underneath the console with three screws used to hold the shift plate on. Since I broke one of the little tabs, I decided to use ABS glue (gotta love being a plumber, that stuff is every where) and I'm going to put it back together today.

I have gone to redline and looked at some leather shift boots though so I'm not sure how long I'll be able to wait until I throw one of those up.

and some more pics, as you can see there is one screw left, meaning it was done right. You can also see the $300 shift plate that has a broken tab. **** that, $300 for one small piece. I'm gonna either check for another shift plate at at pick a part or buy a leather shift boot.

Wheels will be put on next week some time.

My soon-to-be wife wasn't thrilled about the $300 JDM tail lights I ordered. She doesn't really get mad, just doesn't understand why I want to replace perfectly good parts on the car, haha.
