245/45 ZR 17s on OEM 7" rims
I don't know wth happened to my thread on this (The moderators as usual never reply to my emails) so I will repost it with the copied and pasted replies I have gotten so far. Thanks to all of those who have replied and please keep the good info coming.
Here is the deal again:
I put my stock rims and tires on my wife's 02 Maxima SE so she could get another year or two out of them instead of having to replace the OEM Bridgestone Potenze RE92s her Max came with (Awful tires). They are getting pretty chewed up and she is going to probably need tires come this winter so inbetween I can put her OEM rims/tires back on her car and dismount my OEM tires from my OEM rims and I want to either put the BFG Drag Radials on there (The new style ones thought, not the old Comp TA versions) or the Nitto 555R Drag Radials. I can get the Nittos in 245 size and that's it or the BFGs in 225 size tires for 17" rims.
Here are the replies that came into my inbox so far:

Well their's, I managed to stuff them on, in spite of being slightly under what the tire maker recommends as a minimum width. And their's the ideal rim to tire width ratio for performance sake. That being said, I recently found out the one of the cheif guys autocrossing a Z. Carter Thompson, who placed 6ths at nationals last year (behind all the S2Ks), runs Hoosiers (275s on 17" sized wheels (7.5" front, 8" rear).
Your not supposed to do that, but hey he did (shrugs shoulder)

Quite sure. There is a difference between can and should. I guess my sizes are better suited to turning than going perfectly straight though. My experience is all in turning... Most race tire mfg's suggest 9-9.25" for 245's
The front of a current Z06 uses 265's on 9.5's
The rear uses 295's on 10.5's IIRC

I've had poor luck with Nittos in the past and would suggest the BFG Drag Radials. They won't last as long, but they are the fastest drag radial. Regarding the 245's on 7" wide wheels some have used them with success, but I wouldn't recommend them for drag racing. I'm sure you'll be dropping tire pressures at the track and I don't know how stable the tire will be. Late model Mustang wheels fit G35's, maybe you can pick up a used set. Then you can have a dedicated pair of slicks for the track.

Re: 245/45 ZR 17s on OEM 7" rims
One more question...if I run the 17" rims with either 245 or 225/45 17s out back and the 215/60 16" Blizzaks up front for reduced weight will that screw up the VDC/TCS or will I be ok...I remember reading about that last summer, but I never saw or found via a search, anything that was conclusive as to why.
Thanks again.
