I have a situation that makes me confused.

So I have a 2006 automatic g35 sedan. I put the car in "manual" mode expected that when the car redlines it would shift into a higher gear. I drove the car to redline and past 7k. (7300 I think) I have two questions. Why didnt it shift, and did I hurt the car going that far past redline..(over 1k I think over)? I think the 350z motors withstand alot of revs though.

Thanks

AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH

you'll be fine junior. next time just push forward on the stick when you want it to shift up, and pull back toward you when you want it to shift down. The number that displays in the middle of your gauges indicated the current gear you are on.

I dont see how that question is so funny. My cousin has a BMW 330 and it autimatically shifts when it gets to higher rpms.

Our cars don't do this, he did the same thing to my car and he actually downshifted when I told him to do it himself. BMW is the opposite when shifting up and down lol.

I understood his question as well. There are some cars out there that will shift if you hit redline or a set "rev limit"

I don't think the G does this, but i haven't tried to find out. What is the rev limit on the VQ anyway?

The opposite is true though. When in manual mode, say 3rd gear, and you stop at a stoplight without downshifting manually, the car AUTOMATICALLY changes to 1st gear even though you are in manual mode.

I kinda wish it would let you start from 2nd gear. It would help out a lot in the snow

OP theres a rev-limiter for a reason, to prevent the engine from over-revving and causing damage. You'll be fine. I hate cars that come with manual mode but automatically shift up for you...whats the point of manual mode then??

Thanks everyone (the ones that actually gave me answers). I got this car about a week ago and one of my friends told me it had "intelligent" manual mode. (like the genesis coupe) Some automatic cars to this to have a perfect redline and to stop crazy drivers from blowing up their engines. Ok, now that I know it doesn't have it ill be less concerned. And about my redline. I redlined my accord once and it smelled like *** for 2 days(burning) so thats why I was bothered.

Oh you'll be fine. The kid up the street from me hangs his civic with dual fart cans on the rev limiter every day. I think he likes checkint to make sure it still works.

You can't go past redline. You can stay at redline though. Doesn't feel or so good.

When you use MM, the gear you select is the highest gear it will go up to "automatically". After that you have to shift.

Let's say you choose 3rd. It will auto shift up to 3rd and stay there until you MM shift into 4th.
