You'll be fine.

you got a pic of your ride with the winter setup? post pls

235/55/17 would be an inch bigger

235/50/17 would be pretty close to the OEM tire diameter, but 20mm wider overall.

However, if these are winter tires, you don't want to go wide. You want to go narrow. 205/60/17's would be close to OEM diameter (slightly taller) and slightly narrow to help cut through snow better and have a smaller contact patch to disperse the weight of the vehicle (more idea)

Going with wider tires on winter setup is counterproductive. You want more weight on a smaller footprint and narrower tires.

i know wider is not the choice to go with, but my problem is tire selection.

I live in Jersey but i make alot of trips to Vermont for snowboarding. i dont want a full winter tire. im looking to get a performance winter tire.

as of now i have ContiDWS on my stocks but there balding. the tires performed great, but i wanted to try a set of winters.

Gotcha.

I have the ContiDWS and run them year round. Pretty decent tire in the snow and I haven't had an issue driving in MA and NH during storms. I've been caught out in a few. Good tire.

Always wanted to grab a spare set of wheels and get some studded snows. I'd just swap them on before a big storm and go have fun.

yes, i've been caught in a couple storms also and the DWS held there own. i might just wind up buying them again seeing the price for performance winter tires in the size i'm looking for is going to run me almost $1000 w/shipping.

I use the DW on my 19's and love those tires also.
