LOL about the banana suggestion , about the problem sounds like you don't have enough power coming from the battery, do what everyone suggested check the terminals, you can also check to see maybe your parking lever it might not be engaged all the way, try moving it from park to neutral and try again, also I might have missed this, but you haven't install anything new in the car have you?.

Are you saying if there's low oil or no oil at all, the car won't start or starter won't even work? Never heard of that before...

 

I finally got my car back with a new starter and it's starting right up now.
Hope it doesn't die on me again!

 

when you have low/ no oil there is no lube at all. metal to metal contact, after a while it just locks up the motor, after damage has occurred.

 

i'm having the same issue. just be sure we have the same problem, this is what happens in my situation. i put the clutch in, turn the key to ACC (radio and all other electronics turn on), turn it further to turn over (all electronics turn off), no sound.

so i did some research on the nissan/350z forums too and i came across some other possible solutions. check out the following link.

it could be the IGNITION SWITCH.

I dont know if my question relates but i have base model 04 g35 coupe (auto) i had a rod knock problem on my way one well while on the way home the car shuts off and wont start it wanted to but it sounded like it wasnt getting enough power to crank so i pushed it home and im jus getting around to looking at it i bought a new battery but the car just makes a clunk noise when i turn the key over i pulled my starter took it to autozone to get tested and it passed so could anybody throw any ideas out there to what it can be thats giving me this headache??

 

Ever check your oil?
Possible engine seizure?
Does it crank/turn over when you remove the spark plugs?

Thing is i changed the oil two weeks prior to it turning off but i honestly havent checked those things because im getting ready to buy a used motor for the coupe from a dismantler but i was jus asking because i want to make sure i dont need to fix anything else after my swap im taking the car to a buddy for the swap but i cant get the car on a trailer without it starting 😠😠

 

Yep, pull the spark plugs and inspect then try to turn the crank by hand to see if it's seized.
