G35 Sedan 6sp Vs. Lightning

I have seen this guy for about a month now on the freeway. We both exit off the freeway at the same time about twice a week. I knew Lightnings were fast, but dang... We usually see each other on the road but we are never in a position to do anything about it because of the amount of cars that are usually on the road, until yesterday... We are side by side at the light and the light turns green. We both punch it, and I have to say that my launch was the best that I have had in a while, but his was still better. LOL. As I am ready to shift to second, I can hear his tires still squeeling. Holy @#%!!!! I put it into 2nd and he is still pulling on me. We go all the way up to 95mph and he is about 5 (approx.) car lengths on me. We slow down to the next light and I roll my window down and give him a thumbs up. He asked me what I had under the hood and I said it was a V6. He said that he knew that but what kind of mods on the V6. I said I didn't have any ( I was lying of course, I do have the 350z intake tube which adds as you all know about an extra 100hp). He then said that my G35 was definitely the fastest G that he has raced and that he was really impressed. It was great to race such a fast vehicle. I get tired of trying to get these Honda's to race. J/K. I know I lost but for some reason, going up against this Lightning, it felt good anyway's.

P.S. Just a side note. After we were done racing we resumed traveling the speed limit and of course he was next to me and I heard this whining from his truck and no sooner than that did he truck leap forward like a ft or two. What was that whining? A supercharger? or just a stock Lightning?

Re: G35 Sedan 6sp Vs. Lightning

Yea lightnings are SC from the factory, and have MONSTEROUS torque off the line, ive seen a few races against M3's on the highway and they keep up for some time thent he M3 eats them even from a dead stop, his lightning was msot def. modded, i dont think a stock lightning can put 5+ cars on the G manuals, or could they? Anyway i know it feels good to lose to nice and fast cars, i dont get a thrill out of POS cars anymore so hardly race anymore, my fav's are the WRX's, M3 convertibles and the new S4 was the best run ever.. A porsche turbo ate me up did a Uturn came back round while i was still at WOT then passed me again =)

Re: G35 Sedan 6sp Vs. Lightning

Lightnings have and Eaton M112 (112 cubic inch displacement) Roots type blower. With factory intake ahead of the throttle body, the whine of the blower under load is barley discernable. If you were able to hear the blower, then it definitely had a freer flowing intake tube and air filter. With all the good aftermarket engine, transmission and suspension parts available, it is pretty easy to get a Lightning into the 12s.

Glad you had a fun run.

Re: G35 Sedan 6sp Vs. Lightning

Also if you heard the whine of it, he probably had a pulley and belt upgrade which upped the boost!!

Re: G35 Sedan 6sp Vs. Lightning

What do Lightnings run stock ? mid 13's ?
My neighbour just got SRT10, that truck is a monster. Haven't had a chance to see him hammer it, but even standing still that thing is intimidating.

Re: G35 Sedan 6sp Vs. Lightning

Hi jrlesher,

I am newbie and I have no knowledge about MOD's. What is the "350z intake tube" mode which you have on your car? How much does it cost? Does it really increase the HP by 100? So your sedan is now 360HP? How does it affect your mileage?

Thanks,
g35dreamcar

Prospective G35 buyer.

Re: G35 Sedan 6sp Vs. Lightning

g35dreamcar:

It's the 350Z intake tube (without a resonator box), and he's just kidding about the 100 HP.

Because our sedan intake setups have the resonator box, which quiets down the intake noise and also puts a slight restriction in the airflow, we lose a "little" power and a LOT of intake noise, but it's pretty much a straight swap between the two. Many people like them because of the increased "sound" of power, and there is reportedly a slight increase in power and throttle response, but it's not real significant - probably not even 5 horsepower.

Re: G35 Sedan 6sp Vs. Lightning

um...hahahahah no man it doesnt give you 100hp....that guy was being sarcastic and it was a total joke hehe....the 350z intake tube gives about 3 hp and its 75$....nothing in the real world can give you 100hp on a G35 unless if you fo forced induction ....which is about $8k....
