Dunno if you guys know this, but Checker has a sale on Royal purple.

Normally $8.99/qt here ($44.95 + tax)
K&N filter $13.99

Normally $59 plus tax, just $39.99.

Have a happy engine.

Cool deal. I just don't like the reported UOA of this stuff to justify the high costs. You can get Castrol Edge and a good filter for less than $40 anytime.

IMHO only here. If I were to spend that much on oil, it would be Amsoil.

the UOA's on 5w-30 were great.

I've been running RP for a while now.

Castrol Edge is like $7.50 a qt

Pretty sure I saw Castrol Edge at Wal-Mart the other day for $25/5qt jug.

Sounds like a good deal on the Royal Purple though.

I got in on the last rebate and got 10w 30 Edge for $10 (5 qt jug). And the person above is right. It's about $25 or so at Wal-Mart.

Doubt it.. but UOA are car specific. Don't assume it translates to your car automatically because its the same make/model vehicle with the same engine.

UOAs are car specific but a good oils will report a good results more consistently than bad ones. UOAs are good to see what you specific engine's health is and if you are a good candidate for extended oil change intervals. If your engine is trashing the oil in 3,000 miles, you aren't going to be able to get 7-8k out of it.

Researching UOAs on the same engine with different oils is good in regards to what the lab techs comment about the oil and how the TBN's live within the mileage duration. In general terms.

Castrol Edge is marketed to be superior to Castrol syntec. One would have to go to the maker's site to see. Dig around bobistheoilguy forums to see how the Edge is performing on other's OUAs.

In general terms, a larger filter will have more filter area to keep the oil clean for a longer time. I use the maxima version Napa Gold. They are made by Wix, a very well known/respected filter maker.

The Gold versions are confirmed made by Wix. Not sure about the silver. So make sure it's the Napa Gold models. Also buying them from Napa is expensive. www.fleetfilters.com. I need to order more and will probably add the cabin and air filters to the order. I think the filters are less than $5 each on this site. Way better than the $7+ at Napa?
