i thought that as well but it's been confirmed the bumpers are from the same year, the only difference being awd vs rwd and the price difference is negligible. i think they just f'd up. and oh yea, for what it's worth i'm not paying a dime luckily, everything was covered by the other party.

you should look into getting depreciation money from the other insurance company, look it up you could end up getting a thousand or more because your car is now worth less thanks to carfax.

It's called "diminished value" and that's a great suggestion.

OP don't cave on this. Take the car back to the shop and demand they fix it right.

WOW.....I don't comment on very many issues that I read about here, but REALLY guys??

You can definately tell when someone on here actually knows cars and the mechanics behind them, but this is NOT one of those threads.

First - there won't be any mechanical problems regarding the use of a RWD vs AWD front bumper - even if you swaped an 03-04 front for an 05-06 (you'd have to cover up the majority of the vents with tape to create an airflow problem) IT'S JUST COSMETIC!

Second - resale value is all subject to who and where you are trying to sell it to. there's this cool thing called CARFAX now, so if you took it to a liscenced shop it'll get reported anyway. BUT, i'm assuming you took it to a "backyard" body shop and it won't be reported, which now brings us back to WHO and WHERE you might try to sell the car. A dealership will most likely be able to tell that you had work done, so don't try to fool 'em. If the work was done well (aside from the fact that the bumper is a slightly different style) you shouldn't have any trouble selling as a private party sale. the difference in resale value based on this kind of issue is barely noticable when compared to how many miles are on the car and it's overall condition - not which front end it has!

AND PLEASE.......IF YOU DON'T KNOWS CARS OR HAVE EXPERIMENTED WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS ON YOUR OWN G35......DON'T JUST THROW OUT IDEAS.....IT CONFUSES PEOPLE WHO REALLY NEED HELP!

^ wow, what a bold first post! Lol. It is not a cosmetic thing, it is there to cool the transfer case on the AWD models, why would they add it for cosmetic only on the G35X? And yea it has depreciating value on a car cuz any1 who's doing their homework inspecting that car will see that it has a bumper from a different model therefore it was most likely involved in a front end collision.

Its funny how some people think they know what they are talking bout. From my understanding its not the shops that report the damage for the carfax but the insurance. I could be wrong but all my years working at a shop ive never heard of this.

I'm not quite convinced 100% the hole is there for cooling...but i can't help but wonder why the slot was added on the AWD cars and kept on the 07+ as well. The G37x coupe however doesn't have it.

If you look through it, all you see if the rad lower support. Not exactly a straight shot into the differential area. Plus you have two functional vents less than 1 inch away on each side. I would think airflow through the radiator and dumping down due to low pressure on the underside would draw air into the diff. But who knows, maybe it does aid in cooling the front differential due to aerodynamic properties i can't really see without use of a wind tunnel

Definitely don't back down. The insurance company paid to have your car repaired to it's original condition and the shop is obligated to deliver on that. Incorrect replacement parts will decrease the resale value as any semi-savy buyer is going to notice something is different. If the shop gives you crap, call the insurance co.

On a side note, what color and where are you located. I just so happen to be in the market for a new bumper .

FWIW, per the carfax website, they only obtain info on total loss and theft from insurance companies. Accident reports are mainly from police reports, DOT and Shops.

I'm not sure how much functional cooling the hole provides either, but it would still really bother me if I had the wrong bumper. It really doesn't matter whether it's functional or not, the body shop screwed up and should fix it. Your car is supposed to be the same or better than it was before the accident.

I personally think it looks better without the vent, the car looks too happy with it if that makes sense

The vent looks almost like an afterthought. Like they designed the bumper and then realized they needed it.

If you look at the 07+ front bumper, it has the vent, but it looks more "incorporated" into the bumper.

I'm glad my car is black cuz it blends in, but that vent it one of the ways i ID another X on the road because it stands out on other colors.
