I must say, the new g37 x is incredibly comfy. The suspension seems to be tougher than my car. On the contrary, I thought the higher liter and dual intake that the car would be much faster, but there isn't much of a difference... I also feel like I'm driving a boat... Anyone else have any takes on this?
I agree, it should make about 50whp more; however, much of that power gain occurs above 5500rpms and the X weighs closer to 3900lbs, maybe even 4000lbs in the G37X. His 03 only weighs around 3350-3400lbs. While the X does have 3.7 gears, it weighs a lot more, has taller tires, and makes similiar power down low compared to the VQ35DE. It quite possible the VQ37HR could feel a bit soft around town. When you let it stretch it's legs and speeds get above 50mph is probably where you'll see the biggest improvement. The refinement of the 2nd gen G can also confuse the senses.
yeah the 37 should rip our cars apart. I drove an 08 G35 loaner and that thing was a beast compared to my 05, i can only imagine how the 37 is. Honestly though, I still enjoy my car more, even though its slower.
I drove a 2nd gen G35 loaner and it definitely felt faster than my car. It did feel much larger though and I actually prefer how mine drives. I also think the 1st gen looks better from most angles.
Haven't driven a G37 yet, but I would love to.

I've seen tests showing the RWD 7AT G37 sedan doing 13.6s@104mph. However, the car in question is an X so you're likely looking at 13.8s@102mph. The same mag got a 14.4@96mph out of 05 X. So yes, we're talking about .6 seconds and 6mph which is pretty large, but closing that gap a bit is pretty easy with a ECU flash and the typical bolt-ons.
True, but the addition of the gears was really to offer two additional gears when driving, specifically passing gears and gears when cornering. 1st is with the 7AT is deeper which is good for off the line acceleration, but 4 gears are still used for 1/4 mile acceleration. Overall, the 1/4 mile gearing of the 1st gen X and the G37X is pretty similiar once you factor in weight and powerbands.
Dave, it also has 2 more forward gears than we have.

I think they did a terrible job on the hood. The car is way too curvy and round at the front. Looks too friendly. Also, I feel like the cabin in the 03 is much bigger than the 09 37X. The G37X is 'puffy' inside.
It's def faster.
I had two different '09x's for a couple days early this year. All i say is mash the gas at 60MPH and you are doing 100 before you even know it. It absolutely screams on the highway.
Even from a stop it felt fast to me. I'd shift it manually and hit it in 1 and it would plant me into the seat. Awesome car, would love to get one. Would love to drive a 6MT next. Maybe in the spring i'll swing by the dealer and see if they'll let me
I will say, base model 2nd gens are boring inside. I had a base model X and then a loaded one with camera, NAV, IPOD, etc. Having the toys def made the car more enjoyable. I don't think i could ever purchase a base G35 knowing what I am missing out on

but if the G25 Turbo materializes I might like it more...
sport has the same HP, just has stiffer suspension and wheels. The base G37X is still much quicker than a 1st gen G35.
