Brakes Any consequences resulting from not installing brake shims?

I recently did my front brakes and I forgot to install the shim kit. I just wanted to know if anyone knows of any serious consequences of continuing to drive without a shim kit installed.

Last year, when I had my brakes done at a Nissan dealer, they did not install a shim kit, no noticeable problems. Maybe someone could shine some light on the purpose of them. I've read that they prevent squeaking, but that's about it.

Which shims did you not use? All of them?

Their primary function is noise reduction really.

When i redid my brakes, i left the gold outer shim off because I felt it looked better with the black pad showing out vs a gold shim plate. However, when i asked the dealer to check out a brake issue i had, they refused to look simply because 1 shim was missing and I "modified" the brakes.

Other than noise you shouldn't have any problem.

You might hear the occasional clunk from going to reverse and forward, vice-versa. Don't mistake this noise from the axle clunk which is similar, but something else.

Good thing I have both the click and the clunk. Not to mention the suspension creak, rawring hub bearing, rattling interior, and creaking seats. It's like a horror movie on news years eve in my car.

Haha, nice description.

My front passenger side tweeter has started rattling like crazy. I'm going to remove the door panel tonight and see if I can fix it.

You reminded me. When I had my passenger side window replaced, I noticed that the PO installed pioneer speakers. FTW! and I have a stock deck! FTL!
