Hey all,

Just wanted to say hello. I picked up a '06 g35 sedan 6MT about a month ago, and I love it.

I owned an '02 Subaru WRX since 2002 and sold it recently. During my ownership of the WRX, I have also owned a '93 Mazda Rx-7 for three years, and a '96 240SX for three years after the Rx-7.

The g35 is a step up in luxury for me, and is also my first 6 cylinder vehicle. Had to get the 4 door, so used to having 4 doors from driving my WRX. I also traveled a bit to pick up my g35 because there were only a few 6MT within a 200 mile radius from where I live, and I'm glad that I took the extra time to do so.

No mods yet, but as you may guess by the previous cars I've owned, the mod bug will eventually hit me. The only thing I've done so far is buff out the headlights with Meguire's plastix, and picking up some new Kumho tires tomorrow, and getting some tints soon. The first real mod that I'm looking forward to is either an HKS muffler or Stillen exhaust system.

If I could do it all over again here would be my 1st 4 mods:

1. Plenum spacer
2. Drop
3. Sway bars
4. Z tube/drop-in filter

Addresses looks. performance, and handling. Then it's on to everything else I wanted. Just be forewarned that our cars are expensive to squeeze more power out of. If you are looking for a significant increase you are basically forced to go FI. You won't acheive big gains with just bolt-ons. Some yes, but not dramatic.

Welcome to the family!!

welcome to another 6MT sedan owner! you are right about the 6MT's being rare, estimates are ~5% of sedan production. but it was worth the drive for you.

i have the HKS muffler and i love it. purely a sound mod though. the coupe midpipe shaved ~30lbs off my stock '04 sedan midpipe. an inexpensive suspension mod is a swap to 350Z springs/shocks - which gives ~1" drop and improves cornering.

i just did some research this morning about the plenum spacer, still not quite sure how it exactly adds performance, but i did read that it helps with temperatures in some way.

but i also did read that the plenum spacer has minimal gains for rev up motors, and will only see noticeable gains when matched up with the MREV2.

my concern about messing with anything under the hood is the ecu. will the plenum spacer + MREV2 need tuning? or will i be safe with these mods on stock ecu? this concern also comes up with my decision on getting an exhaust system.

thanks all for the welcome btw.

good to know that there are cheaper solutions to getting a better stance and handling, i did not know you can swap out the suspension with the 350z. my question tho is there any differences with the years of the 350z suspension? straight bolt-on?

thanks

you have revised and un-revised springs ... and yes straight bolt on struts shocks springs ... i have 350z tein s-techs with struts and shocks and bolt up perfectly ... you can also put g35 stock coupe springs on your sedan and it will lower you .5'' ... alot of the guys do whats called G/Z drop .. stock front 350z springs in front to drop them 1'' and stock rear g35 coupe springs and drops the .5'' for a nice drop to cover the wheel gap

You'll be fine with the spacer & MREV2 without tuning, the ECU will adjust. For some it takes longer for the ECU to figure it all out, for me it finally got with the program after about 3 days. Naturally, tuning can and will squeeze more power from the setup.

The spacer works great for both non rev up and rev up. The MREV2 is the item that is more beneficial for the rev-up motors. The MREV2 does have gains for the non rev up, but they're not as great.

Re: Springs, run coilovers man, I found a set of tein basics for dumb cheap and they ride awesome. That way, if you ever change up your tire setup you're not stuck with the drop the springs gave you. You can probably find a set of good coils between 6-800. The K-Sport Pros are nice I know a few dorifto Z's in AZ who run that setup.

Even with stock sways, the ride is much much tighter you will not regret going the coilover route.

Yeah most bolt ons are fine with the stock ECU. Usually you don't even want to blow money on a tune until you've covered the majority of your basic bolt ons. A tune typically is the last move to tie everything together.

The only thing I wouldn't feel comfortable running without a tune are internals such as increased/decreased compression (or increased bore) pistons, or cams.

You are completely safe running the items you've mentioned. The only downside will be you're not getting every ounce of power out of them until you've had it tuned.

You need to figure out what you want out of your car. Are you going for a basic bolt on profile where you'll tune after your breather mods have been installed?

My plan is to get a few more engine mods, then run the uprev osiris map for bolt ons. Then save for boost and actually put it up on a dyno for a real deal tune. Keep your vision long and far for this project.
