Hey guys, I was cleaning up my engine bay and my fan shroud is broken due to an object whacking me on the freeway don't know how it broke the shroud but it did.

Anyways, my radiator is pretty dinged up and all the fins got beat up. I was thinking about buying a radiator with fans attached to it and removing the fan off my engine.

Has anyone done this?

Please leave stupid comments outside. I've done my research and I understand the fan shroud keeps heat from spreading. I just wonder if I could just get rid of the big bulky fan and get fans that are attached to my radiator. I just think it looks a lot cleaner.

 

I see you also have an 2003.0 (only model year to have clutch fan). Takes more than just a swap out though. I would like to still do this one day.

I saw that Stillen has radiators for sale if you want to do a replacement.

 

I did a Mechanical Fan to Electric Fan conversion back a couple years ago.

IT IS NOT VERY DIFFICULT.

You will need to remove the stock shroud and fan.

For me I went with the Flex-a-lite 220 (puller) dual 12" fan assembly WITH shroud. Its thin, and pulls a lot of air, but it is noticeable when the fans kick on.

I have one of the fans wired to go on at low engagement and with AC(203*), and the other fan kicks on at the high engagement point(212*).

They work great. You can upgrade the radiator with just about any radiator out there as well, considering the fans are very thin. I'd go with a dual core KOYO or the MISHIMOTO if I were you - larger capacity for cooling is never a bad thing. You might consider using the 350Z or COUPE thermostat as well. It opens 10* cooler than the stock sedan version with mechanical fan (180*F vs 170*F). If you're already changing out the coolant you might as well do this at the same time.
