What is this mystery part???

So I found this lying on the ground next to my driver door. I didn't hear any weird noises or anything last time I drove her. What the heck is it?? It almost looks like the rear brake rotor! I checked all around -- all the outer pads/rotors are intact. I checked underneath the car and nothing was grossly amiss.

It's possible that it has nothing to do with the car, BUT the car is parked on the side of the garage and there is NOTHING else next to it. no toys, no kid running around, nothing. So what is it??

it might be the SBF gasket. between the rear diff and drive shaft. Judging by the rust, you must live in a moist area. I've never seen a SBF gasket that rusted. Mine gets polished ever year, because I dont want to have to replace them all the time.

Common part to fall puff the car.

I beleove it's part pf a trans mount or a vibration dampened? It's in the trans area.

Many guys have had them fall off.

kinda looks like that "hammer of god" thing near the T-case of the AWD ones... someone posted about it. Nothing to worry about. Judging by the looks if it was still on your car, it wasn't going to be much help

wait, you guys are kidding me right? stuff just falls off??!! i mean chances are it's totally unrelated to the car, but I can't explain for the life of me how it got there. we've had some moisture, but I wouldn't expect rust issues

Mustang5L5 is right, I've recall seeing photos and the same part tacked onto the bottom of the transmission. I've had the same piece fall off too.

thanks guys. appreciate the feedback. so nothing to worry about, huh? I'll mention it next time it's in for servicing. otherwise I'll write this off as Murphy's law -- warranty expired last year . . .

Holy coincidence! I found the same exact metal piece under the driver's door in my garage on Sunday morning. I was just about to post this same thread.

So do I need to get it fixed? Or is it just a vibration dampener I can live without?
