My G is really close to overheating...

just recently i've noticed that the radiator fan's been spinning like crazy and making hella noise. and last night i've also noticed that the temp gauge went all the way up and fluctuates up and down around the borderline (the think line between normal temp and overheating temp, if u know what im talking about).

i've checked coolant level and it seems to be fine...

any thoughts ? im i should take it to the dealer huh ? since i still have the 70k warranty on it.

Factory power train warranty is 60k.

Is this a recent development? Have you done a flush? Did it start suddenly?

That happened to an Exploder I used to own. Changed the thermostat, flushed the coolant and it was fine.

Mustang, the powertrain is 6yr/70k.

^Haha, yeah I always think it's 7yr/60k and end up having to look it up. I'm kind of hoping my valve covers start leaking around the plugs before my warranty runs out. Of course I think all of that is covered under the Elite warranty anyway so I'm good for another few years or 50k.

What sucks is at 59,900 I didn't want to drive anymore so I could check my valve covers....so I was stressing out about finding time to pull the cops out. Now I find I had another 10k to go. Guess I'll do it again

Back to OP's question. Have you checked the thermostat yet? I'm thinking it's stuck closed somehow. Normally a broken thermostat will stay open when it breaks but i guess crazier things can happen.

I may be wrong, but I think a thermostat that's stuck open could cause overheating also.

Either way, definitely check it out. Not sure how difficult it is to replace on these cars, but it wasn't hard at all on my Explorer. Of course I would check to see if it's covered under warranty first.

Stuck open can also cause overheating as the coolant circulates too fast to let the radiator cool.

Thermostat was also my first guess... Fan noise sounds a little worry sum, but being under warranty, I'd make an appointment with the dealership.
