thinking of 2005 G35 sedan

Hi All

Just did my research on all the sport sedans out there, and seems G35 is the best bet on paper. The 2005 will add 20 more phonies and 10 extra lb of torque as a bonus for me. I have not driven all the cars out there, but only IS300 and BWM 330. IS300 feels kinda weak went I push it and the 330 performs exactly like it advertise (ultimate driving machine) but is way out of my budget. I wander how is the G35 sedan compare to all the rest of the sport sedans: A4, EVO, WRX, 330i, IS300, C320. Secondly how is the insurance price for the G35? I heard somewhere that the G35 engine will fall out during an accident and therefore drive up insurance cost. I hope there is no truth to that.

Thanks All

Re: thinking of 2005 G35 sedan

I'm an owner of A4, and i will not recommand any Audi to anyone. it is mainly due to the reliability problem. i'm taking my A4 to fix tomorrow.
C320, very quiet car but kinda expensive after options are added.
EVO and STi are in differnet catagory.
IS300, the new one is coming out next year.
330i, the new one will arrive in spring 05.
G35, im still waiting for the price
btw, you can add the 05 Subaru B4 GT, and the coming Mazdaspeed 6 in your list too. i have test driven the B4 GT. it is a very powerful car with very reasonable equipments, except the tires, at a decent price. so, please also test drive that car before your next purchase

I only want to get the pre. package for the 05 G35, which comes with intelligent key. As soon as it is somewhere between 34~35K, i'm gonna get one. or else, the 04 G35 will be my next car.

cheers!

IMO, if you are even considering the EVO and WRX, that is to say you are fine w. the image they carry, then look no further. They are both formidable performers on top of their class, right out of the box. The potential to be even better and faster is virtually endless.

Reliability will be some what of a concern for either, but if you haven't the plan to start mod'n then expect no more failures than say a Ford Taurus.

I think if I was say 10-years younger ... I'd happily own me an EVO! That is no disrespect to the EVO either, I just need something less edgey with a bit more luxury for the occassional clients to ride in.

what2do,

You'll find lots of posts comparing the cars on your list here on the forums. Please use the search function, as this has been discussed adnausium.

Insurance for the G35 was about the same as I pay for my 2000 Subaru Outback. That's to say it's very reasonable. A call to your insurance agent will tell you the specific cost.

I'm fascinated by your comment regarding the engine falling out. That's amusing as a comment on how gullible people can be. I know you didn't really give that comment any credence.

PS Yeah, the G35 is the car you want. Unless you can't live without the cache of a BMW, in which case every time you pass a less capable BMW 325 (at about the price you paid for your G35) you'll feel inadequate in car terms.

my 6mt sedan can easily hang with my friends wrx. he has a catless up-pipe, catless down-pipe, full hks exhaust and a tuned vishnu ecu. he takes me first gear second is catch up and i can get a car in third. most of the time... haven't lost to him yet but we have came close. evo's are quicker than rex's but they start to drop speed in the higher gears also.

I traded an "04 TL for the G, and my insurance went down $14/yr. I've had BMW's and they are indeed great machines. That said, they lack the reliability quotient inherent in Asian vehicles, and require lots of expensive maintenance at dealerships where you are treated indifferently.

Re: thinking of 2005 G35 sedan

I own an '04 Audi A4 3.0 with sports and luxury packages. It's definitely in a luxury class above the G35, TL, and 330i. No car feels like an Audi when you sit in it and touch the steering wheel, buttons, surfaces, etc. It's the cream of the crop. Once you drive it, you cannot consider the other three to be "luxury" cars that easily.

But that doesn't address how it drives. The G35 is more aggressive and sportier. There's more power, and it handles better. It's much roomier inside than the A4. But it also feels larger when you're driving it, like you have a bigger car to throw around. For an aggressive driver, the sports driving experience, together with price, roominess, and reliablity add up to a pretty unbeatable package with the G35.

I wouldn't worry about the A4 reliability as long as you own it in warranty. I leased ours for 3 years, and all maintenance and repairs are covered except for tires for 4 years.

As for the others, TL is not a sports sedan no matter how you slice it, thanks to front wheel drive and torque steer. BMW 330i has the best connection between car and driver, it's just magic, but it fails in other areas such as price, roominess, and interior (opinion on current model only). Mercedes is not sporty. EVO and WRX are way *too* sporty and won't be comfortable when you're not in sports-driving mode.

I love Audis, but there is the reliability issue and you have to spend a lot of cash to get a good performer. Mercedes are boring unless you get an AMG model - the E55 is gorgeous. Subarus seem like a lot of fun, but I really don't like how they look. The 3-series BMW is the only one I like looking at anymore. I've driven a 328 and it was pretty fun. The last 5-series was nice, but they look all batmobile-esque now. They also cost way too much. I've also driven a TL and it's got a great interior, but it's such a yawner on the road. You'll need the good stereo to keep you awake.

I would NEVER buy an EVO or any other Mitsu. Their cars are ugly and are utter crap. The company covers up reliability and safety issues when there should be a recall. I drove one of the new Galants as a rental and the car was so loose and handled so badly, it felt dangerous to drive.
