Superchage my 2005 G35 or buy a new g37?
 

The title says it all...

I have a 4 door 2005 black g35 (great car), and I want to either pay it off, and supe it up, or buy a new g37.

I'm thinking supercharger, rims, exhaus, intake, and brakes. How much would that cost? :)

Then i guess the question is: Is a unique 70 thousand mile 2005 g35 better than a better than new g37 with around 20k? what would be faster? the g35 has around 290 stock, and the g37 is around 330 hp?

i say go for the new g37 drop and rims and whats the point, youre going to start hittin reliability issues on a supercharged car

Just get the newer car, you'll be happy..there's a reason you mentioned it in the first place.

If we are playing psychiatrist here (I'm, not a phychiatrist, but I drove past a Holiday Inn Express last night), I think the normal (rational) response is newer car = more reliability, in this case faster, and a little nicer inside. But that is all a given when considering buying a new car.

The fact that OP is asking about deviating from the norm and is considering major modifications tells me the OP wants more than a "normal" daily driver that blends in with everything else in traffic. OP wants to stand out from the norm. OP is probably a car enthuisiast who realizes the potential of what he already has sitting in the driveway (paid for, or soon to be). For most enthusiasts stock = boring. Even stock + rims, while a little better, is a poor substitute for making a unique, one of a kind, extension of yourself to an enthusiast.

I say go for it! You have one hellava platform to work with!! The possibilities are endless, limited only by $$, and the time and effort you want to expend.

Having said all that, are you sure you want to supercharge? It costs alot more than just the supercharger. IMHO, you are talking about a total motor overhaul, your stock short block won't handle the power the SC will make. Although these motors can handle alot more HP than they run stock. Ask others with more experience with FI (I have none other than owning a Saab convertible which I lemon lawed). Do you really want a rocket? You can create alot of extra useable HP with bolt ons that doesn't require a total tear down/rebuild) and use the $$ you saved on exterior mods.

OP obviously has a dream and I say go for it!! Why fall back into the same old rut, with those monthly car payments, blending in with traffic? Live a little!!

Actually it's sort of the opposite. You can spend thousands on bolt-ons and tunes and never see 300whp. OTOH, you can boost for as little as $8-10k and run a safe 350-400whp on stock internals.

I love my 05' and I want to SC it also. However, I live in an area where the temps stay in the 90's and above nine months out of the year. I would rarely see full power and the wear and tear on the engine would be harsh. These motors are tuned within a whisker of blowing up as it is, you need to do a "built" motor to get reliable performance over 380hp.

To do it right, you will need to spend a minimum of twenty large. Most of the RELIABLE SC cars here spent almost double that. Ask TTrank what he spent.

I considered total overhaul of my previous car at one time.

New car was the right choice.

I prefer the looks of the G35, plus you can actually upgrade the stereo, so that'd be my choice.

Sorry, Scout, that's just not the case. Read the first two posts in this thread to see nearly 50 cars running from 350-500+, most on stock internals, many for tens of thousands of miles.
