Overheating

Well, not overheating exactly to say, but lately, when I'm driving the car around, sometimes the engine temp is slightly higher than the normal operating temperature. It is a 2003 G35 5A/T sedan and has about 157,7xx miles on it right now. Today, with or without the A/C on, the engine temp would sometimes be a bit higher than normal. A few minutes ago, when I started the car again, the temp was climbing almost to the danger zone until I turned on the heater to draw out some heat to lower the temp. At first, I live in So Cal and we've been experiencing hot weather around 100 to 110 degrees, and wondered if that had anything to do with overheating. Also, the coolant reservoir is full. I have noticed that when I turn the A/C on, cold air doesn't come on right away. It takes some driving around to get it to start blowing out cool air. Any ideas?

Might be your thermostat starting to go out. We have had brutal heat here in Texas and my temp gauge doesn't ever climb above the normal level which is about a third of the way up from the bottom, even sitting in rush hour traffic with the AC on and the outside temp over 100.

Might be, since the engine temp has never been climbing up this high before. How much do you think a thermostat change would cost at a dealer?

When my uncle had the car, he changed it at 100,000 miles. It's not dark for the coolant. However, I'm unsure what it can be that's causing the problem. I just called Riverside Infiniti and they said they wanted $125 for a diagnostic charge!

Isn't there a recall for the radiator fans for some G's ? I know I got a letter in the mail couple of months ago about it.

that $125 might be well worth it considering it could be: thermostat, water pump, clogged radiator, air bubbles trapped, head gasket, etc

You can check some of those yourself but if there is a problem it could be very hard to find without the proper equipment and knowledge.

Hmm, I've never heard of the recall. If you could, let me know the details of the recall. Thanks.

Dang, that's a lot to think about. I'm just wondering if anyone knows a reputable repair shop in the San Bernardino/Riverside counties.

I changed it myself also, its fairly an easy change. The only part that got me was trying to get the gasket in and thermo at the same time.

Really? Is there a service manual you used? Tell me more about it.
