Stillen rear valence owners: ?
I recently recieved my Stillen rear valence and it looks great. The issue is the urethane is really pliable and flimsy because of how big the valence is. I'm a bit reluctant to paint the valence and then install on the car because I fear the pliability of the valence could compromise the paint during install even with adequate flex.
1) Do you guys know how your shop did the install? Did they install the valence and then paint? I almost think this is the preferable way to go, at least for an amatuer painter like myself.
2) How did they attach the valence to the body. The valence uses two OEM chassis points on the sides, but otherwise, there's no other point for which to attach the valence. My guess is most shops used double sticky tape to attach the valence to the rear section of the bumper. Stillen provides rivets which I have no idea where they're suggesting to use rivets. Installation directions are not provided, only prep directions.

My shop painted it first then installed it. I used 3m super heavy duty double sided tape, dont let the shop intall it, just do it yourself. The shop uses crappy double sided tape and mine fell off from one side. 3m heavy duty hasn't failed me once. (knock on wood). I have the tape along the whole edge of the valence.

Most decent paint shops use a flex additive to the paint to make it pliable, as well. You'd save yourself a bunch of time and trouble by painting it off the car, then installing. As far as mounting it, can't help, but GL!

If its pure plastic. Wash it with soapy water to try to get all the mold release agents off. Scratch it up with grey scotch brite and prep paste until you have an even scratch over the whole thing. Wash again with soapy water. Wipe it down with plastic prep, tack of then i would prime wit atleast 2-3 coats with a flex additive agent in the primer. Then sand with 400 wet after the primer is dry. Should be ready for paint process
