Engine build up question

So this guy has been posting a VQ35DE block for $200. In his words " It was an oil burner so the block and crank should be good for a motor rebuild" which I know is a crap shoot, I would error on the bad side.
My question is (since I dont know) if this block is good and able to be bored over how much is that worth? Then lets assume the scored crank is salvagable! Whats that worth?

Im new to these engines and I have tried searching, but came up with nothing..

So lets assume im able bore the block and polish the crank ...whats that worth?

Thank you...

It's worth what you and him agree on paying for it. How much discount you really expect here? Let's say you lowball the guy 50%. You save $100. In the scope of a proper engine build, $100 won't even cover the tax on the bill.

Good point, if it isn't worth 200, it's worth nothing.

most things can be fixed by a good machine shop, i would pop off the valve covers and see what the condition looks like, if it looks decent scoop it up for that low price, once you take it apart you can tell if the cylinder walls are cracked or have deep scratches and go from there if its junk, just take it to the closest metal salvage yard you can get some money back

Hahaha I've actually been thinking about picking that same block up for an over the winter engine build on the side kind of thing...

Let me know if you need pistons/rings, I have a brand new set of 8.8:1 cosworths for sale, and know a good engine builder at a local shop if you don't want to do the work yourself

Could just need rings.

What exactly are you looking to do?

It's hard to tell what you're doing here. Are you wanting to build the engine for yourself, or are you looking to repair it and sell it?

Personally, I'd buy, build it, and use it. A VQ35 isn't really hard to get ahold of, and it will be a tough sell if you have to tell people that you've repaired it.

Throw the guy an offer of $100, walk away with it for no more than $150, post it up in the classifieds for $600 and wait.

I would be doing all the work myself minus the machine work. Ive built engines in the past, but was curious of the value of the G35 block. I am not looking to "lowball" someone for $100 on this, just looking for advice. Given the "condition" I was just curious if the $200 asking was fair, nobody has bit in the few months its been posted over and over and over...so the question poped up im my mind.

Thanks seymore4, although I like a higher compression for N/A and boost, Ill keep your pistons in mind ( could always pick it up, build it and sell it)

Or you could buy mine with rod knock and no oil consumption problems for 350
