I know its been dug in the grave, but 87 octane??

With the lovely escalating gas prices, the difference in price for 93 octane versus 87 is roughly 15-16 cents more expensive. On a given tank of 15 gallon fillup, thats about 1.80, and I'm filling up about once a week, so thats roughly 7.20 a month. It doesn't sound like much, but with the likelyhood that gas prices will CONTINUE to go up, what are the real ramifications of 87? Is there a "performance" decrease when doing 85-90 percent city driving? I remember reading that the ECU will compensate for the lower octane to prevent knocking. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

You could probably get away with it but don't put a heavy load on the engine to avoid any chance of detonation. I personally wouldn't go lower than mid-grade though. The heat here in Florida puts alot of strain on a car. Where are you located?

I've used nothing but 87 in my car since the day i've purchased it (just over 2 years now). I dunno, it still seems pretty peppy to me.

I live in Miami, FL so I deff know whatcha mean about the heat. I like driving the car hard sometimes, because well, if you have the power to, might as well do it!

I've used 87 for the last two years. I personally get the same gas mileage (compared to 91). Only difference is that I notice a slight decrease in power. No big deal for me. If you look at the manual, it states that 87 is ok for the sedan, but for optimal performance, use 91. Best thing to do is try it for a while.
