Clunk when shifting from 2nd-3rd in tiptronic

Hey, i hear/feel a slight clunk when the car is driving and shifting gear

Only hav the issue in tiptronic, and only when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear.Does not have any issues in fully auto mode, and no issues when shifting tiptronic in other gear.
don't use tiptronic mode much but when i do, its a scary feeling

what could be wrong?

car's a 2005 g35x with 125km if that makes a difference.

Unfortunately the clunk is normal. Shift closer to 3k or a bit above it. Which pretty much eliminates it for me. I think its something to do with short shifting.

Yup. General consensus is it's normal.

Mine does it too. My only gripe is I want all my shifts to be the same. I like then hard fast shift from 2-3, but 1-2 and 3-4 just kinda roll into the next gear kinda lazily

I have a coupe and it's the same issue also. You just need to shift a little bit higher in the RPMs for it to be smoother. Either that or you can get SxExCx's grounding kit. People say that makes that clunk disappear, along with faster shifts and better throttle response.

I was worried about that too, but did some searching and found it's normal.

+1 on SxExCx's grounding kit, thats my next mod

hmm, if sxexcx grounding kit eliminates it, then I would be interested in paying 150 for some cables... lol

glad to hear its nothing major, but definitely think a car of this caliber shouldn't have these kind of "normal" problems.

yeah ive read about the grounding kit, and if it really does all it says, i'll definitely look into it more seriously

thanks for the quick responses

I've found that letting up on the gas slightly while shifting from 2nd to 3rd reduces or eliminates the problem.

I do have a SexExCx's grounding kit. Shifts are noticable quicker but the clunk from 2nd to 3rd is still there on full throttle shifting. 2004 G35X for reference.

Clunk is still there with the grounding kit, but not as bad IMO.

You guys know you can just make the grounding wires yourself.

Funny thing is I never heard of someone marketing supplemental grounding kits until I came to the import side of things.

Over on the domestic side, they don't exist and you gotta do it yourself.

One of these days I'll do it.

mine does it as well, and last year when i had an 08x loaner, it did it too.. but i agree that letting off the gas sometimes fixes it or above 3k
