Seems like your oil changes are pretty cheap. It's 52 dollars for regular oil and 80 dollars for a synthetic oil change at the dealership. Maybe I should buy my own. Castrol 5w30 is what they use and I didn't ask what type of oil they used when they do the synthetic oil change.

that is really strange. Infiniti of Cincinnati told me that full synthetic SHOULD NOT be used before 20K miles and then once you change to it, you can't go back! I know everyone has their own religious beliefs about oil, but Inf. of Cincy told me this was INFINITI's recommendation? who knows??

Quote: I took my car into Infiniti of Columbus (Ohio) for an oil change yesterday. It had been about 4300 miles since my last change. After reading about several people mysteriously losing oil on this board, I asked if they coud tell me how much oil I had in my G. The service mgr. told me they can not measure this as it goes directly into a large drum. Is there not any way to measure this?

Also, they told me they are using a Castrol synthetic now-it cost me $41 for the oil change-that is starting to get expensive.

What are your experiences with oil changes?
What are they using?
How much do the cost?
How much oil loss between changes?

Thanks,

g4ain

Quote: How about losing 3 quarts in 1000 miles? That's what happened to me.

That's what the original poster is talking about. Several G owners (seven that I know of) have experienced excessive oil consumption that has led to engine failure. He's just trying to keep an eye on his oil level.
seems to me like improper ring seating becuase someone "drove it like they stole it" since the day they bought it and ignored proper break-in proceedure listed in the owner's manual...

I'm going to use regular motor oil for up to 11,250 miles and then switch to synthetic blend. Once I reach 22,500 I'm going to switch to Full Synthetic. What do you guys think of that?

Quote: I go to wal*mart and buy the Mobil 1 synthetic 5 quart bottle for around $20 and have the dealer change my oil with it. The dealer charges me around $25
You are being robbed........................
Wait a minute, am I missing something? You pay Wal-Mart $20 for the oil and the dealer $25 to put it in. That's $45. So how is he being robbed if the dealer's charging him $41?

If you're upset about Infiniti's oil change cost, try BMW sometime. Mine takes 10W60 full synthetic, available only at the dealer, at $9 a quart. An oil change runs me around $100.

I think you're referring to me. If that's the case I can assure you I followed the proper break-in procedure. I can link you to the original thread if you want to read the whole story. It’s far too long to rehash here.

They never did tell me why my engine was consuming so much oil.
