Running hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Newbe here.....2006 G35 sedan. Running at top of temp guage. Both fans on,A/C on. Temp at hose to Metal pipe top of engine 201,temp at small hose top of engine 206,temp at lower rad hose at engine connection about 170+-. All temps recorded with Raytek laser infrared heat gun. What gives?. It just started this yesterday. Seems to idle OK,but as soon as engine has load(3 miles) temp guage in danger area. Heater working good, car running fine other than hot. Could t-stat be problem? Or h2o pump?.....Help wife is scared of car.Car has 33K miles and no trouble till now,we are out of warranty period.....P.dogali.........

does it go up when your on the freeway driving? or just at idle? if its only at idle you should do the coolant flush and then make sure you take out all the air in your coolant. if not then change the t-stat.

33K miles isn't enough to have a problem with the coolant. Unless you have AIR in the lines - you can use the bleeder valve back of the engine by the battery to bleed air out when its hot.

T-stat could be bad - in which case you should swap - but not a common issue especially at <4 years and <60K miles.

BTW - the warranty is 4 yr/60K mile bumper to bumper
5 year/70K mile powertrain

YOU SHOULD BE COVERED BY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY ON THIS.

You could have either a bad temp sensor OR air in the lines. I wouldn't bet anything else is problematic at this point.

1)Faulty thermostat. Unusual at such a low mileage, but **** happens.
I had the same problem-at low speeds and stop and go OK, as soon as get to 60-80 km/h temp would shoot up.
Air cannot get into coolant out of nowhere, OP mentioned that it started suddenly.
Water pump failure will give you a nice puddle. Or, it can leak inside the engine-but you should be able to see colour of oil change.

2)I do not know what is the normal coolant temp and too lazy to look it up.200F does not seem to be awfully high..if engine is really overheated on top of temp gauge, then overflow tank will be full and will be spilling coolant into the engine bay. If this is not the case, then your temp sensor could be faulty and giving you wrong reading.
Good luck!

My guess....faulty t stat stuck closed. Happens a lot on cars infrequently driven like a 33k mile 06 would be
