Is DMV really this slow?

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and I bought a G35 Sedan in early September. This is the 8th week and I have not received my license plate yet. I live in the L.A. area. Does it really take that long or could there be something wrong?

I really appreciate any help or advice from you guys regarding this matter. Thanks!

Re: Is DMV really this slow?

Its kind of slow but you might want to check with your local DMV and just report it been lost/stolen and get a new one on the spot. Mine never arrive for 3 month and I finally went down to DMV and got myself a new plate. As far as I know there are a lot of people stealing plates and what they really wants its the registration sticker.

Yes, the DMV is really this slow. I bought a G around the same time as you did and I was thinking the same thing this morning!

I called and asked why it's taking so long and they said to be patient...after all it's the government and they are not the most efficient org in the universe...

btw, do u mind if i ask what u bought and how good of a price u got because of the new 2005 coming out?

I bought a G35 Sedan Leather, Automatic, Premium package, with DVD navigation system. I got it exactly at invoice price, which was about $33000. Of course, if you factor in the tax and all the fees, it's about $36K. I have it financed at 2.9%. What about you?

I live in the LA region as well, and when I bought my 6MT sedan back in June, it took 9 weeks for me to receive my license plates. So hang in there...

The minute you put the plates on, that new car feeling goes away.

Re: Is DMV really this slow?

On a Friday night last month, about 7:30 p.m., 72 days after I purchased my 04 sedan, a San Diego County Sheriff pulled me over for no plates. He said he couldn't tell it was a new car. (I washed it the next day).

He tries to tell me there's a 60 day limit regardless, even if it's new. I peeled the temporary registration off the inside right of my windshield, located the 90 day notice on the back and point it out to him. He was disappointed.

So, yes, it seems that 8 weeks++ is the California DMV standard.

7 WEEKS???

The dealer had my plates the next day. I could have done it myself the same day, but I had to go to work.

Of course, in my state you can renew your drivers license through the mail or internet and not even be alive until you turn 60.

Geez, I thought they were slow in NM, we are streamlined compared to that! Mine is a weird one too, I have a Disabled Vet plate that is permanent, actually expires in 2050, they had fun with that one at the dealership! I won't complain about our DMV anymore now!

Re: Is DMV really this slow?

My family lives in Los Angeles too. My sister bought her 04 BMW 325i on August 28th, and she got her plate on last Friday(October 22nd). Almost two months. So depends on whether you bought your G on early September or mid-September or late-September, regardless you shouldn't worry yet, not until one more month I guess. By the way, I love the license plate so no one knows that car is all new, we are always scared of people knowing they are all new cars.

Re: Is DMV really this slow?

Most dealers only go to the DMV once a month to process the new registrations. It cannot be done online.

I ordered Cal memorial plates 2 weeks ago and just got them.

Also, the DMV advises Police agencies that plates could be delayed up to 6 months due to the back log.
