Driver side vent noise question
Driver side vent noise question
Anyone has a noise that seems to be coming from the driver side vent or even from the speedo needle as it moves from 0 towards 20mph.
It is noticeable usually when the car is cold but seems to go away after that Not very loud sound, you have make sure air and radio etc. is turned off to hear it and even have bring you ear near driver side das vent. It seems to increase as you move from a stop. The sound itself is something of a creek type noise but also could also characterized as some sort of gearing noise. Its hard to say. If anyone has similar experience?

Never heard of that before. Try taking it to the dealer. They will have you fill out this form that is specifically for noise complaints. If they say they can't find the noise then insist a tech or service writer goes on a test drive with you.
Re: Driver side vent noise question
I have not heard that noise before either. But if you have to put your ear near the vent to hear it, then it doesn't seem like a major issue to me. None the less, you could always ask the dealer about it, probably wouldn't hurt to have them officially document it either.
Re: Driver side vent noise question
no such noise here... The only noise I get some times is from the Auto tranny when it's really cold and that's apparently a normal sound. It goes away as soon as the car's run for a few minutes.
Re: Driver side vent noise question
Well I may not be able to explain it clearly. Basically it is more prominant when its colder. When the car is started and is noticeable for a minutes and goes away as the car is driven for a fee minutes. Noise is hearble as the car is accelerating from 0-20mph and seems to be tied to the increase in speed. Yes it is noticeble and you don't have to get closer to the vent area to hear, its just to get a feel where it is coming from I had to get closer. Its a strange noise not too loud but still annoying. Something of mix of creak or gears rubbing each other. I wish I can explain better.

My drivers side vent creaked all the time. Here was my fix.
2 1x1x1 piece of tan velcro stuck together and place where the door meets the dash between the vent and door.
This put some extra pressure on the vent and stopped the noise.
Now of course I still have sunroof rattles, shifter plate area rattles and of course window/ door rattles.
I do not feel too bad though as Both of my wife's Lexus trucks RX300 now RX330 both have plenty of rattles.
