OEM swaybar bushings are shot @ 9Kmiles
Hello all,
I just installed a set of Stillen swaybars yesterday and noticed while putting the OEM bushings back on the new sway bars, the OEM bushings were completely crushed through on the top/flat sides.
I have a 2004.5 Sedan with only 9K miles on it and the bushings are cut through. I don't want to replace them with OEM bushings again. They are too soft.
Do you have any recommendtions on where I can find harder, stronger bushings?
Thanks everyone,
Tony

Before I installed my Stillen sways, I figured I would need new
bushings. I bought four new ones to replace the originals.
Well, the originals were in perfect condition, with 40K plus
miles on them. I wasted money on the new ones, but used
them regardless. I wonder why yours were shot? Are you
sure they were no good? I sat my old ones side by side to the
brand new ones, no difference!

Re: OEM swaybar bushings are shot @ 9Kmiles
It may have been due to a recent visit to the Buttonwillow track. I gave the car a good workout that day. And yes, the bushings are shot. They're crushed completely through and split open. :-(
There are only two shreads of rubber on the outer edges that are still holding it together.
Any idea where I can find better bushings?

Did a quick google search and found this.

Obviously you would have to measure your Stillen bars and find the correct ones. I'm surprised the Stillen bars didn't come with poly bushings.

Tony,
Sorry to hear ... but I'm a bit surprised they are shot at 9k as well. Mine's been to 2 different track events and over 15k before I upgraded them. They looked ok at the time.
dKlau33 ... nice link there buddy. I need a set of those for my other car. The entire bracket broke off :O

dKlau33,
Thanks for the link. So far, it looks like the only place to offer universal sizes.
THX,
Yeah it is a bit of a mystery to me why they would be cut through already. I have no guess why they would be. Buttonwillow is the only time I ever really drove the car full tilt.

Has anyone checked with Energy Suspension? Their web site doesn’t have Infinitis listed, or 350Zs for that matter but I bet they have suitable replacements.

Clint, what is your other car and what the heck did you do to break off the bracket!?!?!?
Headpaneer, good call. Here's ES's Universal Selection of sway bar bushings. Thing is you can't order direct from them.

Headpaneer,
Awesome link. The greaseable type look like the way to go. Now all I need to do is go back underneath the car with a pair of calipers and take some measurements.
I will post the measurements for anyone else that may be interested.
Thanks,
Tony

Good luck with your search. Too bad, you have to do the work Stillen should have done themselves long ago. I wonder why they don’t feel the need to offer polyurethane replacement bushings.

Re: OEM swaybar bushings are shot @ 9Kmiles
I don't think they're warrantied under race conditions in which the poster said his run at Buttonwillow caused the tearing of the stock bushings. Plus why would you want stock rubber bushings again when you know they allow too much sway bar movement and it will just tear again at the next time on the track? Plus a new set of bushings and brackets will are quite inexpensive. The hard part will be for the poster to measure and determine which size is right for his Stillen bars.

Re: OEM swaybar bushings are shot @ 9Kmiles
Hi guys,
I just went under my car with a set of calipers to see if the P.U. bushings could be used.
Unfortunatly, it's a NO GO. The OEM mounting bracket is fit on 2 different angled planes. There is no way to hook up the aftermarket brackets. Gotta stay with the OEM. =(
