2900 RPM's 70-MPH??
Just bought my 2nd G35 Its a 05' model. And have just realized 8 mo.s later that the bank we bought it from put new tires on it but they are smaller than the original size, much lower profile. I have a 06' Armada with a 5.6 v8 in it and at 70 mph in it Im hitting 1500-1600 rpm's, but in my G I'm hitting 2900?? What is yours ususally at?? Jet
|
Im at 3000 at 79-80, :dunno:.
|
I would say this has to do with the gearing. At 70-90 in the G you can hit the gas and still fly. In your Armada I am willing to bet its much slower acceleration at those speeds.
|
Ah your Armada has a V8 the G has a V6 lol. V8s are always low rpm on the highway due to gearing and such
|
i forget what i am at but i'll find out today when i get on the freeway. I think i am at 75 3k RPM
|
I swapped out to the 3.5 rear diff and I'm running at 3200 RPMs at 80 MPH.
05 Sedan 5AT |
I'm at 3000 RPM around 75-80MPH...pretty much what the other guys said.
|
normally the 3.3FD will run about 2900 RPMS @ 80 MPH for the 5AT
the 3.5FD will run about 3200 RPMs @ 80 for the 5AT changing tire size will change that as well though. what size are your tires? I saw a diff between 245/35/19 and 245/40/19 of about 100 RPMs @ 80mph |
ok. I lied!!! 2900 at 70mph
|
So what tires are on it?
I'm with there guys. About 3000 rpm at 80mph. Seems high to me for a car with 5 gears, but it is a v6. The v8 cars I have owned rev about 1709-2100rpm at the same speed |
@ 70 im like at 2400 rpm about.
|
tell us what size tires you have and if you are 5AT and we can tell you what you should be at. Sounds like you are in the normal range - aside from being a little high due to tire size though.

Yep, these cars are geared pretty deep. It seems to be a Nissan thing because my 5MT Maxima was geared pretty much like my 5AT G. Nissan tends to use some pretty aggressive gearing to offer the most performance at the expense of fuel economy. Companies like Honda woefully overgear their autos which leads to seriously bad performance when compared to the manual counterparts. Look at the last gen TLs for example. The 6MTs run lower 14s whereas the 5ATs run lower 15s. With the G and Z cars, the difference is only .1 or .2. With the newer VQ37 motors and 7ATs, the autos are fractionally quicker than the manuals. |
2900rpms at a steady 70mph cruise sounds a bit high unless you've got a G35X with really short tires.

I have a 05 G35 6MT... pretty close to 3k at 70, @80 im like at 3200 RPM
