Break In period
Break In period
How serious is it to stick to the break in period recommended for G in the manual? I am looking at taking a trip from Houston to San Antonio in about 2 weeks (app. 180 miles or 3 hours nonstop, 75-85mph).
My car at present date, only has about 200 miles on it. Driving to work and back for two more weeks might get me up to about 400 miles. Should I think about renting a car or will I be okay?

Re: Break In period
I wouldn't worry about it, you'll be fine.
The dealer actually told me that the break-in period didn't matter - I still followed it (for the most part :-) ), but I did do a 1500 mile trip when I only had 300 miles on my car. I just varied my speed, and didn't spend a *lot* of time above 4000rpms (I had one little burst up to 135 when no one was around - the power is addictive :-) ).

Re: Break In period
The POWER IS ADDICTING! Number one reason I bought the car.
Second reason: Styling. So where did you go on your 1500 mile trip? I just got back from a 1600 mile trip (although not in the G) Went from houston to el paso, texas and back 12 hours long. Drove my Tahoe that I traded in for the new G.

Re: Break In period
I went back to Lawrence, Kansas from Colorado Springs. It is a fun drive because I go from being at ~6000ft to ~sea level in Lawrence - the car is a beast at sea level. I'm jealous of all you guys that live in lower altitude and get all 260HP, all the time :-)
One thing I forgot to mention in regards to the break-in - I've always heard that the harder you break-in a car, the more horse power it makes. Not sure if that applies to the G, but if you don't care about longevity, you might want to break her in hard.

Re: Break In period
On a long trip during breakin, just make sure you dont stay at a constant RPM for more than 10 minutes or so. Manually shift to vary the engine speed more than 1000-1500 RPMs and give it different loads (full throttle passing/accellerating) every 50 miles or so. This will give a good range of heat/cool cycles for even cylinder/ring seating.
