Synthetic Oil and 2005 G35X
Synthetic Oil and 2005 G35X
Still breaking in my 2005 G35X. Dealer recommends 1000 Km break in period. My question is that I live in a very cold part of Canada in the Winter and would like to switch to synthetic oil. My last car a BMW had synthetic oil and it seemed to warm up very quickly when it was below zero outside as compared to regular oil. Can I run synthetic oil in my G35X and if so can I switch over to it at the 1000Km break in point. Which synthetic are you guys using and do you notice any difference with it on cold days???

Where abouts are you located? I'm in Edmonton. I'm using Mobil 1 and haven't noticed any difference in warm-up time.
There is some debate about when you can switch to Synthetics. Some say right away, but many notice that there are break-in performance improvements noticed to about 10k miles (16k Km). The Infiniti engineers say the engine isn't fully broken in until about 24k Km. I switched to synthetics at about 19,000 Km.

I switched to synthetic at 3000 mi. (5000km for you canuks).
Everything is purring along smoothly.
Regular oil helps with valve seating, so you definately should use it for break-in.
