forgive me im not a sedan owner- just renting one (an 05). me and my gf were in the car and it was saying that the passenger airbag was off. how do i turn it on? the car doesnt have a manual in it. any help would be appreciated!

 

I don't think you can turn off an air bag. Looks like it may be malfunctioning sensor or something. Contact the Rental Company to advise them of the problem and see what they tell you to do.

 

the following web site in the right hand corner of the temperature guage shows that air bag light. I don't see any other way to turn it on or off. It might be triggered by weight and/or seat belt being clicked in. Other than that I don't have any info.

If you look at the picture again, you can see that the car was not started. Those lights appear when you put the key in the on position (prior to starting).

 

You're going to need an '05 owners manual for an explanation.
I'm sure one of our members has their's....if not talk to a dealer.
If there is a way to turn it off, it will probably be key operated (ignition key) and be tucked away in the glove box.

thanks for the help guys, it turns out that its a combination of how much weight is on the seat, where its on the seat (you have to lean against the seat back), and how the seatbelt is worn.

 

Wow, Does that mean the "passenger side airbag off" warning is on all the time nobody is in the passenger seat?

Wow, I guess you learn something new everyday.

It just does not make sense why Infiniti would do that.

 

That doesn't make any sense, there is no "lock" anywhere to turn the airbag off or on, my '97 F-150 had a key switch to turn off the passenger airbag, in case you had a child riding in the passenger seat, there is no such thing on the G35, someone here is blowing smoke IMO!

I agree Tom, It's not adding up......We need to see what's in the owner's manual or a tech at a dealership who knows what's what.

I have 05 G35x. The light only comes on when no one is in the passenger seat. It is weight sensitive.

It is not a distraction at all. No different than looking at the temp.

 

It's probably so you can put a rear-facing child seat in the front seat.

But, there would have to be a key switch for that, mine doesn't come on with no one in the passenger seat or with anyone there!

This may explain the operation best, the manual is fairly detailed on this subject.

"The front passenger seat belt sensors are designed to detect if the seat belt is buckled and the amount of tension on the seat belt, such as when it is in the automatic locking mode (child restraint mode). Based on the weight on the seat detected by the weight sensor and the belt tension detected on the seat belt, the air bag system determines whether the front passenger air bag should be automatically turned OFF."
