Haven't read the manual on this one. On the automatic sedan, what is the gears on the right of ths shifter? Can someone give me an overview on the gears and when to use them? Thank you
Kevin

Re: question on gear shifter

It's a 5-speed automatic transmission. You leave it in D, and it does the work for you. You slide the shifter to the gate at the right, and it goes into 4M. (It always goes into 4M no matter what gear the tranny is actually in.)

The number on the dash is not necessarily the gear the transmission is in. This is the highest gear the transmission will use (kinda like D4 or D3 on a regular automatic). Rock it towards the +, and it'll move up a number. Rock it towards - and it'll drop back a gear. If you're actually in 4 and rock it back to 3, it will downshift unless it would over-rev the engine. Mainly, it's useful for forcing a downshift or holding a lower gear at higher RPMs when you're driving aggressively. You can pull it all the way into 1M, take off from the stoplight, and it'll smack the rev-limiter and never leave 1st until you bump it up to 2nd. However, if you put it in, say 3M, it'll start in 1, and work it's way through 2 and 3 and stop there.

Read this, then go play with it, and you'll figure it out.
