My Thoughts After 4000 Miles...

I just turned 4000 miles and thought I'd give my impressions of my 2004.5 G35x for any people out there who are considering purchasing an Infiniti vehicle.

I have always felt and even still feel Lexus/Toyota built the best quality automobiles, putting aside the ultra luxurious, high-end auto makers. And I've owned Hondas and Toyotas, so I speak somewhat from experience. My Infiniti continues to impress me each time I drive it. This is an exceptionally well-built automobile! I'd put its build quality against a Lexus, BMW, Mercedes Benz, or any other car in or near its price range.

I will admit, after about 2,000 miles the car developed an annoying rattle in the dash. But it only lasted for a few hundred miles and then it disappeared (knock on wood).

Performance: I do not in any way drive this car aggressively. So I can't comment on its acceleration or top speed, but I can say its handling is superb. The car has the PERFECT balance between a comfortable ride and letting the driver feel the road. I am a little disappointed in my gas mileage. I drive about 75% highway and I'm barely getting 20 miles to a gallon of gas. I would have thought I'd be closer to 24 or 25 mpg. Maybe after its first tune-up I'll notice a change.

Luxury: Some folks have expressed concern over the lack of comfort in the seats. I too experienced some back pain after about 15 minutes of driving, but then I adjusted the lumbar support and the pain disappeared.

AWD: I really can't comment on the handling in snow or ice since Wisconsin hasn't had any snow, yet. I'll let everyone know my thoughts after the first big snow storm.

Fit & Finish: I would say the paint finish on my Infiniti is no better or worse than any other car I've owned. Unfortunately, it gets stone chips just as easily as any other car. I did have a clear bra installed, and there are absolutely NO chips where the bra is. I am so pleased with the fit of the car. The doors still close with a solid sound, and after washing there is very little if any water between the door and the door jams. As I mentioned previously, the one rattle I had fixed itself.

Interior Appearance: I wasn't a big fan of the interior instrumentation cluster when I first saw it, but it's growing on me. The Acura TL's instrumentation is still my favorite. The leather in my G is still as supple and smoothe as the day I drove the car off the lot.

Sound System: It's not anywhere near as nice sounding as the TL's, but it suffices. I got Sirius satellite radio which I love, but the readout of artist, channel, and song is worthless.

Bottom Line: I'm as in love with the car now as I was when I first took it for a test drive. Infiniti, you've made me a believer in your products!

I hope this mini-review helps any prospective buyers who are trying to decide between the G35 and any other manufacturer.

Well said! I only have 800 miles on my X, and no rattles yet. I traded an 03 TL on the X because I needed AWD, and do not regret it. Concur with the mileage, though. I guess you gotta pay for that great performance!

Even though I don't have an X, I am in agreement with you about the quality of the G35 after a year and 12k, still feel the same way about it as I did the day I drove it off the lot! I have to say ditto for me, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another! Oh, and as far as the stone chips go, this is about the same, maybe even less, than previous vehicles I have owned at the same age!
