CL Comparison

I've been driving my G35S 6MT for a while now and have gotten used to it, so I decided to drive my friend's 2003 Acura CL Type-S and let me say, wow the difference is night and day. Not to clown on the CL, it by all means has a powerful 260hp engine and is nicely styled inside out like the G35, but that is where the similarities end.

First off, the clutch and shifter are both very light and easy. Rolling off first and shifting through the gears was basically effortless. I can say it is much easier to drive than the G. Although some people might like this, I felt less direct and connected to the car. The power through the gears is equivalent for both cars, but once I hit my first turn, the difference was a noticable amount of pull (torque-steer) through the turn. The CL felt a lot less planted through the turn. Steering on the CL was light, not as direct and connected to the road as the G. However, I felt that the CL absorbed the light bumps and potholes a bit better, whereas the sport suspension on the G is sometimes a bit harsh and jarring. This i'm sure is a side effect of the G's awesome suspension, which I would not trade for the slight improvement in ride quality.

Point of my experience is: When you get too used your G and miss the first-time driving it experience, go and drive a FWD high horsepower sedan and you'll soon realize you had bought a true sports sedan.

Yep, I make it a point to drive my girl's Mazda 6 every couple months or so, just to keep it all in perspective.

Re: CL Comparison

No regret of getting rid of my 2 year old CL Type-S for my 2004 G35 yet.

Re: CL Comparison

I drove an auto CL-S 2002 which I used to love, but after getting in my G35 it's annoying. The controls are too light, the interior appointments are SUPER cheap. Just the way the cruise control and audio control buttons feel on the steering wheel sucks.

I'm confused as to which car this desribes, the CL or G35.
