engine noise

I have a 2003 g35 sedan. What the problem is, I have a loud noise in the valve train at about 1400 RPM's. It seams the be coming from the driver side front of the head ( I think ). It will not make the noise all of the time. Only under a load and cruising. At full throttle it runs great and no engine light. It is driving me crazy because it does not do it all of the time. And when it does do it it sounds like the motor is blowing up. Does any body have a place to start, I am not a dealership kind of person, I like to fix it my self. Thank you
