So if the rear tire is drastically larger than the front it will effect VDC as well? Using your example of 5.78%.
I know having a smaller rear tire (aesthetics aside) is not good because it tricks the computer into thinking that the rear tire is slipping due to it spinning faster than the front. I have never ventured that far (rear more than 3% larger).
And yes anyone with experience please chime in, this is a good learning experience for all.
You got it.

well i thought it was from oem specs. for example. befor ei got my oem rays 19s, i had sport 07+ sedan rims (18in rims) the frons were 50s and the rears were 45s. i checked before in the calculator and it was within 3% but my VDC was going crazy with that set up. so which is why i thought 3% from OEM Settings.

Not sure why you had issues, what were the full specs on the tires you mentioned above?

This link has a great calculator where you plug in the different tire sizes and it will spit out the specs for comparison and actually also create an image comparing the 2 sizes. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Specification:215/55-17 and 245/35-19. Diameter: 26.3in and 25.8in. Difference 0% and -2.1%.

from what you guys are telling me, this would be alright. What I was originally wondering though was if it was alright to put the 245/35 on the front and rear which is .5 wider

thanks so much everyone for bearing with me. I know it could be stressful explaining everything to someone so inexperienced, but I am learning so much

You learn quickly grasshopper. Your example is correct, that combination shouldn't give the VDC issues. And yes it would be perfectly fine to run 245/35 all around.
