AWD Deployment Confirmation
AWD Deployment Confirmation
I've got a 2004.5 G35x. The AWD feature is extremely important to me due to the snow amounts I typically must drive through in Wisconsin. So my question is: Is there a way to make certain the AWD is engaging? I don't want to get stuck to find out the AWD isn't working.
Re: AWD Deployment Confirmation
The AWD system is always on. (You cannot turn it off.) It will automatically deliver power to the wheels that have grip. All you have to do is press the gas and hold the wheel.

Re: AWD Deployment Confirmation
I hate to sound like pessimist, but how can I verify that it is actually doing what it is suppose to be doing? Is the only way to verify that all tires are getting power to accelerate on a sheet of ice and have someone watch to see if all the wheels turn?
Re: AWD Deployment Confirmation
If it's wet out, turn off VDC (in a parking lot, please) and brake-torque, then launch. Every 2wd I've driven (mostly loaners) spins like mad. My "X" just squats and launches.
FWIW, the AWD has diagnostics that *should* alert you if the AWD is not engaging.
